Gear Mesh Question

I'm about half way through my velocity 50 build and have just fitted the main gear. I've pushed the pinion as hard up to the main gear as I can but still seem to have too much backlash. If I hold the clutch bell still I can rock the main gear about 1mm side to side. Is this normal or am I missing something?

Thanks for your reply. Sacko was kind enough to email me the Gear Mesh Setup a few weeks age. The problem I have is that when the engine and clutch bell are pushed hard up against the rearmost edge of the bolt holes in the frame the gear mesh still doesn't feel tight enough.

just checked mine and there is a bit of play in the mech, maingear moves abit but it sounds right in the air

Thanks for the reply. I've just fettled the bolt holes by about 1/2mm and it is feels much better now.

No sneaking required...I had full approval for this one after our visit to the RCHA Flyin...who'd have thought !!
Should be ready for a maiden in a couple of weeks all being well.
