Okay seems that the impression was wrong, espicially as Abyiss owns pretty much everything out there LOL

I think people tend to buy newer or bigger versions of what they have had as well a bit rather than changing.

Slight change of subject but in the same area, most new to heli seem to buy 30's due to expecting to crash them and repair costs, in reality is this so, do most people crash for a few times before getting competent or just people that rush and dont get lessons?

I would rather go slow and cautious, get proper lessons and try not to have any crashes than just spend less, fire it up and break it.

Also, if you were just looking at a 60/90 kit from new at around £800 to spend, where would your money go, assuming you have everything else needed.

Been in the hobby for longer than I care to remember - still never experienced a Raptor or a Knight -- Not that there is anything wrong with them .
This is about individuals doing there own thing - I've tried Xcells had about 4 or 5 of them there okay but don't suite me .
Find out what suits you and go for it, it's really the only way to find out about the various brands available .

I was lucky I suppose in that I flew a Shuttle for 2 years from scratch and never crashed it.

Partly through joining a club and having a good mentor (as well as listening to other club members) but also about knowing your limits and taking things slowly.

              Luck also plays a part.

There are debates on the forum about whether to use a SIM or not.

Best thing is to seek advice, listen and join a club. Then listen some more and then take things at a pace you are comfortable with.

I always remember a guy starting at our club. After less than three weeks he crashed his Shuttle into the ground at about three feet. From a distance it looked like the tail failed as it turned through 360 degrees before hitting the ground. Turned out he was attempting a 360 degree turn at three feet having only flown for three weeks

Worst was he was only about 20 feet from the pits. He was asked not to do it again.

              Draw your own conclusions.

Mostly, enjoy it. Thats what model Heli's are all about.

              Cheers

I started with a Raptor 30, as previously mentioned, but that wasn't by choice, that was because I was sold that kit by my local model shop (gone now!). It was that or the Shuttle, and I preferred the look of the Raptor

I didn't have lessons per-se, but I did have a lot of help from a guy who now runs my heli club. He helped me get the heli setup and ready to fly, then gave me a few pointers to get me going, and off I went. (Now I'm giving him a few pointers as he's learning 3D )

No way would I suggest going it alone, ever. Without some knowledge of what's going to happen when it lifts off, it's likely you'll crash.

I totally recommend at least one lesson, just to get a basic understanding of whats going on, how to safely use the equipment, etc. Once you've been pointed in the right direction and can be safe, then you could quite easily go it alone.

That said, you can't beat a good club for help, atmosphere, comaradery and hints and tips to help you progress.

I was slow to get going due to not having lessons (no-one around me to give them) but I think I would have progressed much faster had I had a few. That said, I didn't crash...

                Cheers,
                Rob

Thanks guys thats reasuring to hear, I wont worry as much the first time out with the x-cell as I am getting it checked over/ set up and lessons before doing anything so will budget for a few hours rather than repair costs. If I still crash it then at least I tried to minimise the chance.

Going to Motors and Rotors who distribute x-cell for a set up etc then find an instructor. So any thought on the imaginary £800 kit?

i mite not bother with the trex600,,and the knight there a bit like fords,,,,,
                      Fix-Offern-Repared-Daily..but good helis.
T-Rex 600 does not deserve to be in that line, it absolutely is not a 'fix often repair daily heli', it's zero maintenance apart fom replacing dampers, which it does go through quite quick if you bang it around. Aside from that it's probably the most reliable heli I've ever owned.

Is that like a pitch curve?

Can you programme it into your Tx?

If so, could you also dial out the wind effect on a cyclic-throttle-pitch-roll-yaw curve mix?

But seriously, one chap at our club has a new Xcell Stratos - very very nice heli indeed. Not really sure why they bother with tail fins though - they're each about the size of a postage stamp!
