  • First Auto (unintended) !!!!

    Well a probable crash averted...

Tail rotor failed in flight and heli was heading for the deck so hit throttle hold, prayed a bit and managed to auto it down in one piece!!!

Having looked at it, it looks like a bearing holding the tail rotor shaft failed which made a hell of a racket and stopped the tail rotor spinning and chewed up the plastic tail gearbox cover.

Bits ordered and am busy tomorrow so wouldn't have been flying anyway... they should arrive Wednesday! Never thought I'd be this pleased after a failure!!!

Gratz Graham, not easy to auto a 400 sized model they have the auto characterstics of a falling brick. Sounds like you didnt panick & got her down safe. You missed a good day sunday pete gave us several auto demos with my 600 & the airskipper 90 & I officialy h8 him now (only joking) hope to meet up the weekend.

                    Thanks everyone

It's nice to be congratulated, but it was a lot more luck than skill!!

Hh, and Ade at HH has asked me to test out the alloy tail gearbox as some have had bad vibrations with it so he's sending one FOC as well as a plastic one (that I'll pay for!)... Top Bloke!!

Martin - shame I missed Sunday - I really enjoy watching Pete fly... Was the auto on your 90 intended - if so, he's got balls because you wouldn't have been happy if he'd decked it!!! I started practicing stall truens with him after you left on Saturday... very hairy!!!

                    All the best

                      Well done Graham.
Did you say the tail rotor failed?
Was the heli not piroing like mad then?
If you autoed it whilst piroing as well then that would have been a miracle!!!!!

Well done mate, it's never just luck that gets you down safe when it all goes Pete Tong. A lot of skill even though you may not realise it.
