  • Build question

    Hello,

when I feed the main shaft through the frame do I need the shims that come with the kit 0.3 or 0.5 mm on the top bearing?

I can only get the bolt through the bottom if I have no shim.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

    Thanks
    J

You don't need the shim if it lines up and theres no play up or down

you dont need them if everything is tight, try without the shim and if there is no play you dont need 1,if there is a bit of play, try getting the smalledt one in there..

        Thanks for the replies.

When I do not use a shim there is a very slight up and down movement.

Does it need to be tight with no play up and down?

That's correct. It's the same as used on the 550

If the shaft moves up or down due to clearance that will effectively allow additional + or - pitch to be applied without moving the servo's something which is not desirable, ideally there should be no up or down movement in the shaft at all

Yep, you need to put a shim or two in.

I have had to put both in mine so that there was no movement

Better to find out now, than to wonder why the head is misbehaving

I put a shaft mast collar on the wrong side of a bearing on my Knight, and that caused quite a lot of problems...
