  • Flight times for general sport flying?

    Hi guys,

OK just musing but I was wondering what flight times people are getting out of the 600efl for just general sport type flying. I'm thinking circuits, flips, rolls, loops, stall turns etc.

Specifically interested in times from anyone using Opti Packs 2700mah or 3000mah especially.

Pete, I'm using Turnigy 3300mah 30c lipo's and run for 6-6.5 mins with most of it in idle 1 @ 85% flat throttle curve, I'm left with 20-30% left in the pack, Ian.

Ran mine with the Turnigy 3000 batteries from the 500.

Set the headspeed to 1800, 2000 and 2100 with the ice governer. After a 4 minute flight the batteries showed 50% remaining at 1800 and 30% at 2100.

Going to up the headspeed to see what I am missing..

OK so it sounds like I'd get about 4 mins tops at 2100 headspeed with the 2700mah packs.

More thinking required. Not sure it's going to work as I'd hoped.

It's not an especially light bird, which is the problem. 3000mah is really the lower end even for sports flying IMO.

It will get a little bit more expensive, but you could get an adjustable motor mount from KDE, pop on an 11T pinion and run some spin semi symmetrical blades.... You could efficiently run a much lower head speed that way. That would net you better flight times, although even for sport flying at those low headspeeds you'd need to do something about the tail. Perhaps the spin semi symmetrical 95mm tail blades might go a long way towards fixing the problem. You could always speed up the tail too using the 550/600e parts.

Personally, I'd just put the money into another set of packs... So quick to change on this heli that it's hardly a problem only being able to fly for 5 mins at a time.
Ridding the world of Helis, one crash at a time....

You see the idea was to sell my 700e and replace it with a 600efl.

I don't fly the 700e much because I can only fly it at the field, same would be the 600efl.

But this only makes sense if I can use the same packs on a 600efl as the 500efl I've just bought. Which would mean running 2700mah packs as they work correctly COG wise on the 500. Then I could have loads of batteries for the 500 during the week when I fly at work, and then when I go to the field I'd be able to fly both by sharing the packs.

I'd do the tail gear mod to bring up the tail ratio as that's just fitting the ESP gears and means I could run 2000-2200 head speed with no tail problems. I'd prefer the lower headspeed anyway. But even at this lower headspeed I'm not sure I'll get that great a flying time.

It was more an idea just to see if it was feasable. Just would make more sense in some ways if it worked.
