  • 'New' Trex 600L Dominator

'New' in inverted commas because it's just the previous 600e Pro with new servos and a different colour canopy, a couple of bits of red anodising and the Dominator name:

And the gpro instead of 3gx. They are much better servos. I'd say this has changed more than the 500l dom did

What are these align HV servos like? Still don't think there's anything wrong with standard 610s at my level at least...

The very latest version of the 600 Pro had the Gpro too (though not sure if that ever hits the shops in UK), so that's not strictly a new thing.

Bottom line is the heli itself has nothing new at all except the red anodised swash, it's just the bundled hardware that's changed. The 500L had a totally new frame, so I'd say was changed far more. Seems like an opportunity missed to at least address the much complained about fragile TT bevel gears and low tail drive ratio.

The later 600 Pro had DS615 servos... i'm not sure what the Align HV brushless are like, I've not heard anyone complain about them on the other helis that have been fitted with them.

The "Dominator" part refers to the electrics package , and when you add it all up , it's a hell of a package, the new servos are quiet , smooth , powerful and precise, I have been trialing G pro and its bang on for most pilots, I think the overall package is quite a saving over buying everything separately.
I am not in the market for another heli , but I cant see much wrong with this one :-)

I have the 700L Dominator combo. I fly pretty hard, they perform just as well as the Futaba or Outrage servos i use in my other models. I am fairly keen at detecting unwanted flight characteristics as i fly a lot. So i would notice any obviously inferior changes from flying what most would consider "better servos". So far i am perfectly happy with them. If i did the Pepsi challenge i doubt i could tell the difference. They are perfectly capable… I have spare Outrage servos but I'm not looking to swap em over.

I obviously can't comment on durability or failure rates as i have not been flying them long. 20 flights so far as i have only had the model a week.

They perhaps don't feel as smooth as the Futaba or Outrage servos if you move things by hand. I did notice that. Especially the tail servo. It felt a bit sticky around the middle of travel and that worried me… but it was only very minor. The Futaba servos are very very smooth. But the proof is in the flying and so far they are performing perfectly with the tail as solid as a rock.

I have had a lot of top end stuff heli wise as a lot of us have. But for the money… you cant beat Align's combos. Im not brand biased in the slightest. But i am just as happy with my 700L Dominator combo as i am with helicopters that cost twice as much (component wise). Obviously needs a Vbar to replace Gpro though lol Although i have not tried the Gpro as I'm perfectly happy with Vbar.

As they havent changed anything in the airframe or drive train it will have the same weaknesses as the previous 600 Pro, the biggest and most well documented issues being:
                        • Fragile TT bevel drive gears that are prone to stripping in flight.
                        • Weak tail authority, prone to blowouts at anything short of crazy headspeeds due to unusually low tail gearing.

I'm not knocking the old 600 pro, i have one and like it, but it does have issues that would have been very easy for Align to sort out. It's a shame they didn't address these weaknesses rather than focusing on 'bling' like red anodising and new paint..

Lovin' the canopy, will be having one of those!
Why is it DFC? I thought we'd gone back to conventional swash drive?

The low tail speed is easy fixed with longer tails though Align should have fixed this and I've got a 600 EFL pro that split the auto hub when I botched an auto, Noone was more amazed than me to find the TT gears all ok

As for HV servos, I can't tell the difference from 610/615's but others might.
As a side note, Kyle Dahl's dad accidently set his servo voltage lower and Kyle didn't notice.
                            D
.......unless otherwise stated, all opinions are my own.

A bit of a idleness on Aligns part on this I think.

That air frame design has been out since 2011, and it isn't without its flaws.
Widening the frames to accommodate a wider range of motors and batteries is the obvious improvement. They could have also made optional speed up gears for the tail, for those that like to have longer flights with a lower head speed. It isn't hard, it's just two parts.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.
