  • power failure mid flight

Hi guys I had a loss of power mid flight last night, she came down with an almightily thud how would I even begin to find out what was the problem? Are there any tests I can do to find the weak link I am going to strip down and check all leads etc tonight both batteries still showed 50-60% with similar volts in each cell was a few minutes into flight I still had cyclic control was only doing gentle flying around.

I had an issue on the previous flight just as I was taking off the power cut off but I managed to land it I replaced the battery with another done a quick visual all looked good took off and hovered with gentle flying around 6 foot high for just under 2mins all looked fine so up she went then not long after it happened.

I have all the spare parts but am reluctant to re build and fly again without knowing what caused it.

I have a castle Pheonix 110, gryphon bec, vbar for the electrics connected to spektrum receiver with 1 sat both lights were solid red before take off.

Any help or pointing in right direction to start investigating would be appreciated.

I take it power was lost to the motor and not the radio?

the most likely cause is dodgy connectors/solder joints ( on the esc side) so I would check that first.

Unfortunately I don't have pro I will check all the leads and connectors once I've finished building a 450 that's on my bench at the moment. Any damaged leads I won't know if that was caused by the crash or were the culprit. Is it poss it could be an issue with the flight battery even tho the battery tester shower all 6 good cells with good voltage?

My Trex 600 suffered a sudden power loss which turned out to be the one way bearing spinning in it's housing. Green Loctite fixed it.

            Just something else to check.

Good few weeks ago now on its 2nd maiden same thing happened to my 600e pro doing couple slow circuits when suddenly dropped like a brick but unfortunately the long grass done most of the damage.
I also have no idea what caused it, i had the 3GX on at the time & now fitting the Gpro, once she's ready im just going to have to gamble the maiden don't end the same way.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

MIght send you barking up the wrong tree but what are your esc low volt cutoff settings? Are batts new/old, could be duff cell kicking in low voltage cutoff? Are solder cons good? Plugs fully connecting? Not blacked up from connecting sparks? Is esc new/ old? BEC/ No BEC? BEC setttings? Is it new setup, rebuild. I'd have thought any frayed or loose wires could cause cut out, if damaged by crash they'd be cut/severed? Good luck with hunt!

hi i would agree with above parksy ,first i would check all solder joints , look at connectors on packs esc , look for dull tarnished connectors , its surprising just how dirty they can get , i clean mine with cotton buds & contact cleaner .

Data logging is your friend. The CC ESC does it; and the V-Bar can. If you didn't have it enabled before, enable it until you find the problem. Something like a PowerGuard might also be a good idea.
