  • 600 dfc 12s to 6s ??

i am looking at buying a trex 600e dfc which is set up for a 12s. the thing is that i have all the electronics for a 6s machine. is it literally just a case of having the battery in the centre of the tray rather than having 2? or is it more complicated than that ?

12s differences will be the motor kv, potentially the esc will have a lower amp rating, but yeah pretty much if you are swapping the electronics anyway.

that sounds good, the one i might be buying has no electronics at all. so it would be my hv80 and 1220kv motor going in it. but thats good if the airframe is the same on both

hmm, im not an expert but i think 80 may be a bit low for 6s.

if it has no electronics, then its not setup for 12s, the only thing that would potentially be different would be the pinion. but it may be the same.

Agreed, 100a will be the minimum for a 6s setup. Im using 110hv on my 550 just in case in the future for 12s setup.

If you already have 80hv ESC why not just get a 500ish kv motor and run it on 12s? This is what the airframe and gearing is designed for and it works well. If you slow the head speed at all from ballistic to what you might call comfortable the tail gearing will need changing and you'll make a whole lot of grief for yourself.

Having owned an original 600e 6s and a 600 EFL pro I can tell you they are worlds apart. The old 6s machine eats batteries for breakfast and spits'm out for elevenses, the modern 12s machine is a superb bit of kit and will fly on 3000mah packs right upto 4500mah packs.
No brainer, find yourself a motor suitable for 12s. Job done.

As mentioned above, going with 12s has lots of advantages. Unless you already have multiple high C rated 6s packs in the 4500/5000mah size for 6s. With 12s the amp draw is much lower and you can get very good power out of bog-standard LiPos and your 80HV ESC will be fine.

On 6s you'll pull way over 100 amp peaks. I was seeing peaks up to 120 amps when I had an Outrage 550 and this was with very smooth non aggressive flying.

I believe midland helis have some scorpion 4035 motors in the 500kv range going very cheap. In a 600 size heli it will go like a missile.

Also if the 6s batteries that you have are 5000mAh they are unlikely to fit between the frames, the frames are spaced for smaller packs.

Unless youre flying scale, (and i mean scale), then dont waste youre time!

T600's on 6s "even sport" flying are lipo killers, even the best of the best pack's!. ive had them from the outset even including my recently departed t550, great for big air and sedate stuff, but anything other than that you need decent pack's along with 'anal' battery management skills and a subdued collective thumb!!

Even if youre only a sedate sport flyer, go 12s m8, i promise you it's worth it!,, sell youre motor, you can pick motors up cheap enough, you can then use youre hv 80, and pick up some 20/25c turnigy blues.

500/520 blade size is the limit for 6s power set-ups. (based on the above statement)
