Pinion failure?

My 13 tooth pinion for my 500 gave up on me today, during a full pitch climbout. I turned it around, flew it towards me, cut the engine and autoed it down, as I had practiced many times before.

To be honest I though it was a bearing in my scorpion engine that had let go. The noise it made was incredible.

Seems like a weird failure to have? Has anyone else seen this happen?

yep, had a tooth go off my 14T pinion. I use the revco ones now instead from www.flightbox.co.uk

Ash is rhino gear the same as Revco? I could only see the rhino gear pinions?

This happened to a friends 450 last week, the broken bit ended up inside the motor and tore it to pieces!

Never mind, just ordered some and was told they are the same. I also ordered some K&B tail blades to try out.

Revco / Rhino ...... same thing really, they are both hardened steel pinions.
