  • Reflex XTR and Windows 7

I have XTR version 5.04.2 which has a translucent blue USB dongle. It runs very nicely on an XP system.

When I tried to install it on my new Windows 7 home system, all goes well until the part where it asks me to plug in the dongle. When I do this, nothing else happens. It's as if there is no Windows 7 driver available (hardly surprising of course since my XTR is several years old).

Does anybody know how to resolve this please?

I have a friend who had a similar issue, the only way he found round it was to copy the XTR files from his old 32bit pc onto the new 64bit 7 system, this seemed to cure the problem.

Unfortunately I can't remember which version of Reflex he was running, but this may help you out.

you can also try manually installing a Vista driver for the dongle, you may have to go the xtr website to download one.. ther may even be a windows 7 driver up there too.

Thanks 0h, this is a great idea, but the XTR site is pretty bare nowadays I'm afraid!

Thanks Jimbo, I'll copy the whole lot off onto my keyring and see how it goes!

The very reason I swapped mine for Phoenix.

Sorry this doesnt answer your question but move it on and buy yourself Phoenix Ran.

            You won't regret it.

no worries, i just remembered, his used to come up with 'Hardware Error' upon opening Reflex, but keeping it open and just uplugging and re-plugging the dongle solved it.

I have to agree. I thought XTR was sufficient for my Sim needs but I tried Phoenix and if I'm honest it blows XTR out of the water! Do yourself a favour & get Phoenix you'll be glad you did!

Have you tried running Reflex in Windows 7 "XP emulator mode"?
                    Cheers, Lee.

Reflex XTR problems on Windows 7 Pro (XP Mode)

I am trying to run Reflex XTR on a Windows 7 Professional 64-bit machine (within the XP Mode Virtual Machine), but am having problems. I get the error message:

                      "Cannot find Direct-3D-Driver!"

As such, the simulator will not even open. I have downloaded the latest DirectX drivers from the Microsoft website, and have looked at the only other existing forum post I have found on this matter at:

Reflex XTR fix for Win XP - Rotory Modeler - Powered by FusionBB

However, this solution did not work. I have also tried emailing support via http://www.reflex-sim.de but I see this is no longer supported?

I suspect the problem may be due to the graphics card / drivers installed in the Windows 7 machine not being shared with the XP Mode Virtual Machine. Does anyone have any ideas? I would love to get this working as it is a great simulator....

Direct X is not supported in XP mode in Win7 therefore this feature will not be useful for running older games on Win7 as stated in the link below

Primarily targeted at business users, Microsoft has officially added a derivative of their VirtualPC virtualization technology to Windows 7 in the form of Windows XP Mode. Windows XP Mode is a pre-configured Windows XP Pro virtual machine for running applications that just won’t run natively under Win7, allowing businesses to half-step to Windows 7 as part of a longer transition. It comes as a separate download available for Win7 Professional and higher editions, and no, it doesn’t run games.

Well I guess thats the beginning of the end for Reflex XTR then...

In the meanime I'll give Jimbo's suggestion a try... to copy the directory structure of Reflex XTR from an XP machine to the Program Files (x86) directory on my Win7 machine - if this works for the Vista OS maybe it'll work for Windows 7.

                            Hey Jimixter,
                            any luck with this?

That solution works for getting the older version of Reflex onto Vista,
and it worked for us putting Reflex onto the beta version of Win7,
hopefully they haven't changed too much between the beta and final release.

It sounds more like the end of the end to me... its not supported and it doesn't run on Vista without tinkering and wont run on 7 at all...

The lack of support for the sim for existing users is really the nail in the coffin for any attempt to get back into the RC sim market I would have thought... I think it all went wrong when they thought the ivol would be the next big thing, what a load of %$^£ that was IMHO.

I moved over to Phoenix last Chrismas and have not looked back.
