Phoenix looks low Rez on 42" plasma?

Have Phoenix running on windows via parrallels on macbook pro.Macbook and Plasma connected via HDMI adapter and using Simstick. When I connect the HDMI cable to connect to the plasma the res goes down on the MacBook? Therefore looks crap on the plasma? What am I doing wrong?

Not sure if it's the same on a Macbook, but with PCs and laptops, when plugging in an external source they default to the settings for external screens. On a PC you would go to Display settings and amend them for the external screen, increasing the resolution from default to 1920x1080 or similar to improve the res. Hope this makes sense and also helps!

Ok thanks! Yeah that makes sense - i understand that.
What I don't understand is Windows XP. Totally alien to me!? Coming from a mac background of twenty years.
I will try and find the display panel....hopefully.

Just right click anywhere on your desktop and choose display settings, should take you straight in, otherwise go to start - control panel and choose display settings there.

Some 42" plasma screens with HDMI may still be only 1024x768 resolution, some can only take PC input at lower res than normal TV display.

Many reasons for what you are seeing and once you tell us which model it is, we'll know for sure what you are dealing with.

This might help but it does suggest a mac should auto-recognise the ideal resolution of the extended display so it may be that this is the highest resolution your plasma is capable of. Worth trying manually tweaking the settings though.

Paul, i know this might not be the problem or even what your on about but on my set up, i have to have the power lead plugged into my laptop other wise it goes into power saving mode, and switches the graphics card to one that is shit, this makes the picture not very good and lags as well.

Never thought of that? I know my MacBook does have 2 modes like you say. I will check it tonight and make sure it's max graphics power.

That will be your problem then, the maximum computer resolution it supports is 1280 x 1024 (SXGA)

If you can persuade the computer to output an AV signal such as 720p 0r 1080i/p then you'll be OK, but as long as it is using PC resolutions and frequencies you will be limited to 1280x1024
