I bought the turnigy from ebay £13.99 delivered ...cheap and cheerful but works well for two to nine blades and records the highest speed

Would you stand over a heli with any tacho when the blades are at high speed...no

Does it tell you the rpm of the blades....yes

used a bit of common and strapped it to the boom pointing up and it recorded the highest speed.

is it suitable for use on a heli...yes.

dont be stupid no one stands over a heli with a taco. you hover the heli and get someone to eye up the taco .use your common sense .you will only find the true speed when the heli is in the air.normal, idle up 1 and idle up 2 at zero pitch while in the air will give the true speed.

I've one of these and it works well. I found the easiest way of using it is to hold it up quite close to your eye to exclude as much light as possible, especially on a bright day (if you're ever fortunate enough to be out flying on one that is!)
