    ummm.....soft?

I don't really have much to compare it with. I only span it up once with the Align ESC on and it vibrated like buggery while spinning up. The YEP esc doesnt do that, it's very slow...

Even on the Yep 120hv the soft start is great, no jerking of blades & really nice progression through the throttle range

Thanks. It only allows one Buddy code at a time. Luckily I chose the ESC first.

With a brushless esc you have three sets of fets connected across the supply. Each set has a top and bottom fet, so that's six in all. The motor has three wires and each wire goes to the middle of one of those sets. The electronics switches a top fet on and a bottom fet on to get current through a pair of wires. There is nothing stopping two fets being switched on at the same time that are directly connected. This can happen through a design fault or a faulty fet. When the top or bottom fet goes the other one will go as well. You then usually lose all the rest. It does not matter if a motor is connected or not as the fault current does not run through the motor. A designer may assume that all three motor wires are connected at all times. It is not good practice as the esc should be able to survive a motor fault when one wire goes open circuit. Many people leave one wire off and get away with it. You can run escs and motors from current limited power supplies and this prevents the fets blowing. You only need a few amps to test the esc and motor at low speed. AA batteries will not provide much current, you can test them with a 10 amp meter or 10 amp fuse wire.

Turns out the BEC isn't sufficient for the 550 with 3GX V3.0, I was having brown outs today when I did hard rolls. Thankfully they were so brief it didn't result in a crash.

Normally, the only "brown outs" at Phoenix are from the spectators when Graham's flying!

It's good that we now have ways of checking if what the manufacturers tell us is correct. All new things have problems, they get fixed though.

I finally got my electronics back from repair. Only took two months..

I have had one cyclic servo repaired along with the 3GX, ESC and tail servo. The ESC must have blown and put 22v through the electronics. Can I trust this ESC after repair though??

The Talon seems the way to go but I am open to ideas..
