Life without the internet and forums would be so much easier, you'd just buy what tom, dick or harry recommended. Although sadly it would also mean i wouldnt have a job.

It seems crazy my little 450 that cost's a fraction of the price of the 550 is flawless and runs a cheapo hobbyking underrated ESC but on a more expensive ESC they suffer with what appear to be getting the basics right.

If i spend £75 on the Talon and it fried everything i'd be pretty f*ing angry about it.

If i spend £50 with HK on the YEP and a receiver battery i'd be a bit less upset if the ESC failed but still had radio, but i have to contend with charging an extra pack.

Charge time for a 1700mah 6.6v pack @ 6amps would only be a few minutes wouldnt it?

Despite the obvious advantage of going with the YEP and seperate battery i'm still leaning towards the Talon for convenience, just don't want to get burnt....

The BEC on the YEP is a lot better than the align esc. If I was in your position I would get the YEP. I have a castle esc on my 450 and while it's good from what I've seen the Yep is just as good for a cheaper price.

So much so that I'm going to use the 120HV model on a 700 that I'm building very soon.

I think the thing that's leaning me towards the Talon is that it's a 'branded' product and for the sake of £20 i might aswell go for it?

I've never had an issue with an ESC from hobbyking so i can't really knock them. Also, the Talon has a built-in gov that could be useful?

Another alternative is to use the YEP along with the CC Bec Pro. This is what I'm using but with the stock align with 553mm blades as well and the esc hardly gets warm even when beating on it. It also means that if the BEC fails I will still have receiver power and can auto it in. All you have to do is wire them both to the main battery and disconnect the red wire on the ESC servo lead.

The Yep also has a governor btw that works fantastic from what I've seen.

Lot's of 3GX's seem to pop up for sale here - usually around the £50 to £60 mark (BNIB most of the time). People keep swapping them for AR7200BX's.

After ****ing about for around 30 minutes thinking i'd broken something else because nothing would initialize i finally noticed i had the wrong model selected on the Tx, doh!

ESC went in and programmed fine, ran over the 3GX settings and updated it to V3.0 then gave it a quick hover, seems to hover much nicer than on the version 1.0 it came with!

Fingers crossed i can actually fly it this weekend!

What is the soft-start like on that YEP ESC?
