  • Please recommend some new settings for me

    Hello all,

I have an xk110s helicopter. It is a fun little thing, and a way for me to dip my toe back into the hobby.

It has been soooo long since I ever triped collective pitch, and I am struggling a little.

Here are the two main problems:

    1. Any time I touch the cyclic it drops height pretty severely. I expect some drop, but this is a lot.
    2. When not touching the cyclic it is hard to keep a steady hover height. It either shoots up or drops down. I am finding it hard at mid-stick to find that sweet spot.

    Here are my settings

    Throttle Curve 0 32 65 65 65
    Pitch Curve 40 45 50 65 80
    Expo -30 -30 -30
    Gyro 70

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks!

    John

Do you have any expo on the collective? If you do make sure it's negative not positive.

Every helicopter pilot develops there own set ups, so there are no 'ideal, one size fits all' settings as it depends on your ability, flying style, the helicopter you are flying and even weather conditions but when you finally find your ideal set up it makes it a lot easier. From your post I think your problems are the relationship you currectly have between your throttle and pitch curves. In 'normal mode' the throttle should just be a straight line from 0 to 100% i.e. 0, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% with the pitch curve set to the same. This will give you the full pitch range of approximately -10 degrees to +10 degrees . This should give 'lift off' at around 55%-60% throttle with these settings, providing your helicopter has been mechanically set up correctly. Once you are in the air and flying it is best to switch to Idle up and use a fixed throttle of about 80% for initial flights. This will give you slightly longer flight times and should not be too aggresive and the helicopter will fly more like the real thing where the motor RPM is constant and all you control are the pitch, collective and rudder movements.. Expo settings are very subjective but I tend to use 50% on cyclic and 50% on pitch but nothing on rudder.
Best advice is to find a local club as they are normally very helpful and can answer all your questions.
