Hi,
I have a problem arming a Hobbywing Platinum 100A ESC(non-HV version, so the one with the built-in BEC) with an Xnova 1120KV motor, VortexVX1N and 2x Spectrum DSMX satellites (bought at the same time and hence assumedof the same vintage – if important). I’m also using a DX8. The problem appears to be that the ESC doesn’t arm – I getthe three tuneful beeps as soon as a battery is connected (as expected), butthen just a single beep constantly every second or so. My interpretation ofthis is that the ESC hasn’t been calibrated for my endpoints (which would becorrect) and hence doesn’t know zero throttle. However I am seemingly unable to calibrateit.
Steps:
Switch on DX8. Throttle at lowest point. Trim disabled in the radio andzero sub-trim. Not in throttle hold and straight 0-50-100 throttle curve (noblades attached!). Throttle travel end points in the DX8 are 104/105 which show0% and 100% in the Vortex setup transmitter menu.
Connect battery. I get the three tuneful beeps from the ESCfollowed by the constant beep. The Vortex comes back with a blue light andoperates as expected on pitch, cyclic and tail.
Disconnect battery. Move throttle to highest point on DX8.My understanding is that this will force the ESC to calibrate.
Re-connect battery. I get the three tuneful beeps from theESC followed by the constant beep again. I move the throttle down, but I don’tever get the two new beeps (as per the manual) so I’m pretty sure that nothingis changing.
I think I have inhibited the governor everywhere that I needto in an attempt to make things more straightforward. My flying is more sport,so I just use curves.
I have not programmed the ESC yet. Next on the purchaselist will be a programming card/box.
I have tried changing the end-points in the DX8, reversingthe throttle servo, and checking that throttle cable is at least connected toSV5. For this latter I disconnected the supplementary power cable coming fromthe ESC and checked that the Vortex still gets power (hence there is aconnection). However I accept that there still could be another issue with the cable.
I appreciate that these symptoms seem to have been discussedon many posts, across many forums before (I've trawled and experimented but to no avail), but I cannot seem to force the ESC tocalibrate – and hence arm. Can anyone offer any pointers? Many thanks in advance.
Gregg
