There is very little room between the Tail drive gear and the frame sides! If your top main shaft collar comes loose, or moves a tiny bit, this gear will be in the frame!! I will be adding shims between the underside of the clutch and the bottom bearing to protect this from happening.
Which shims are you going to use? Do you have a link to where I can buy them?

Apology for the lack of completion of this build thread! Been very busy with work and family, so not had a lot of spare time!

Re the Shims, I just happen to have an abundance of them from many heli builds, so will find one to fit. It will probably be .2 or .3mm thick. Have a look through the spares listings for Heli's with a 12mm Main shaft.

Re the Ball links, none of these were tight. They are tight to push on, but once in place, they are very well fitting. Not loose, nor tight. None of mine needed sizing.

Right, on with some more pics!!

Now that the main frame area is complete, and most of the wiring done (I like to do this without the boom on so I can easily work around the model) I set about building the Tail assembly.

First thing I did was the Tail pushrod. This is JB Welded to the Carbon rod. Be sure to rough up the carbon first so the glue has a good key to bite onto. Once in place, I just use some tape to hold it in place, because as you add the second end, air pressure inside the rod will try to push the ends off. Also, don't forget to slide on the Tail control rod sleeve's.

This is the rear boom support block, complete with it's boom pinning hole in place. The Boom comes pre drilled ready for the pinning bolt unlike other machines that you have to drill yourself.

The thinnest there is .5mm, that's to thick. Look at Goblin spares.

Onto the Tail Gear Case assembly, this is straight forward, nothing new about the design, just well made, and very smooth gear mesh.

You need to get the Bevel Gear B inline with the drive pin hole on the Tail output shaft for the drive pin to fit in easily, because its a firm fit. I just used a Hex wrench to line up the holes first. Be sure to use RED Locktite on the setscrew that holds the drive pin in place! You don't want that coming out in flight!

Once this was built and installed, it was time for the Tail blade Grip assembly. A nice little addition here was the inclusion of an O ring slid onto the centre hub first that cushions out the free play end to end of both grips. There is no issue with this endplay, because when the machine is in the air, the gyroscopic forces of the tail blades keep the grips pulled against the thrust races anyway.

The Blade grips are different to the norm in the way they have been machined. They are drilled from the back, rather than through from the front. This allows for more contact area on the blades which is no bad thing. Also worth noting, is that they supply 'proper' tail blade bolts! By that what I mean is that the bolts have shoulders all the way through the grip, so the blade is pivoting and loading against a shoulder, not the sharp edge of a bolt thread. I change every one of my machines to this type of bolt.

Once the tail was fully assembled, it became apparent straight away I had some for of binding on the pitch slider. I used a few drips of oil, but this did not help. I checked to see if the links were binding on the blade grip arm balls, but these were fine. It turned out to be the Tail Slide Ring! This is plastic, and mine was not 'Round'. What was happening was at a certain position, the pins in the top and bottom of the pitch control lever were binding, and twisting this ring, stopping it from sliding freely along the shaft. In the end, I had to remove the Tail hub so I could get at this ring, and then spent the next 2 hours running a needle file wrapped with 2 layers of 400 grit wet and dry paper in the groove at the exact area of the tightness. I did not want this to become to loose, but also not bind, so it was a case of file a little, and refit onto shaft and try it. This to many times to get this correct! No one is showing this part in stock just yet, because I would have bought another, and if it was also out, I would have trued it up in my Lathe.

Now with the tail box out the way, I set about getting the boom cover assembled. This has a neat alloy clamp at the rear that is bolted to the carbon cover. This then has a pair of pinch bolts at the bottom that clamp it to the boom.

Before we can fit the boom cover, we have to fit the boom into the front support block and Tail pinion assembly, and pin it in place. Then temporarily fit the Tail gear case so that the tail pushrod can be positioned correctly and the guides locked in place with their set screws. Once this is all in line I then completed the mechanical tail setup before removing the Tail gear case to fit the boom cover.

Now that most of the Heli was complete, its time to finish the wiring, but first I needed to assemble the lipo tray so I could get my packs in the right place for CofG.

This is simply a carbon fibre plate with an Alloy clip on the end. The back 2/3rds of the plate slide into the Alloy frame rails, and there is a section at the front of the tray that's wider than the frames, and slides into 2 frame slots.

I have used a spare Kontronik HeliJive 120 ESC on this machine. Seeing as there was very little in the way of cooling under the canopy, I opted to fit a JCooler heatsink to the HeliJive. This was developed for the TDR just before all the 160A ESC's came onto the market, and worked a treat in my TDR. The bonus is that it has lugs to bolt it down, and with a tiny bit of modding with a needle file, It fits to the Forza's electrics tray easily.

This really is the first thing that I feel that JR have fallen short on in the design of the Forza. If you wish to run a 2s Lipo Rx battery, there really is no where to fit it! You have to use either an ESC with a built in BEC like my Jive or a Kosmic, or you are going to have to fit a BEC like the CC BEC Pro, or the Gryphon Quasar.

There is not much in the way of provision for wiring the heli. In order to keep the connectors as narrow as possible (where it passes the servo arm) I removed the cases, and used heat shrink over the pins of one of my connectors.

It was a tight squeeze, but I managed to hide most of the wires!! This Heli is ideally setup for a single unit controller like the Mini V-Bar, Vortex VX1n, iCon etc.

Something that I did fit to the Forza that has nothing really to go with it was a new devise I have just bought. This is an active Efuel gauge. It works with Futaba FASSTest telemetry, and all I have to do is tell my telemetry alarm in the Tx to to off once 4000mah has been measured through this device. It will also tell you if you have gone over a set max Amp spike. IE, I set it to 160A, and on its first flight, a womans voice shouted at me "167Amp" (or something to that affect) from my Tx. The capacity is of course based on 80% of your cells capacity. So in my case, I will be using my trusty Optipower 6S 5000 packs, so 80% of 5000 is 4000, or 4Ah. The ideal thing with this is, instead of flying to a timer, if your more of a Sport/Club flyer like myself, I want to cruse around at 1300HS, then flick her up to 2100 and have a blast around, then back to 1800 etc etc. With this devise I just keep flying until my Tx tells me I have used up my lipo, and its not time to land,

Well, that's the build complete, so down to the field for a few shots and then the maiden flight!

The maiden flight was luckily a none event! It went straight into a very steady hover, and a quick check of blade tracking showed it to be spot on. So, armed with my new Efuel Gauge, off I went with no timer, hoping I had set up my Telemetry correctly!! First thing to notice is that's this machine is slippery! It picks up speed very quickly! This was to be expected seeing as it has the latest Nick Maxwell Edition Scorpion motor in it! It tracks very well, and has really nice Aileron authority. It rolls so smoothly and crisp. Something that is very apparent it the noise it makes. It's very much like my Goblins, and I'm guessing it's to do with the air from the tail blades slamming into the boom, and also harmonic noise from the boom cover. All in all, it performs as would be expected, and with my limited ability on the sticks. It climbs for ever in large loops, and feels super locked. The V-Bar needs some fine tuning as it has good tail stops on CCW rotation, but it stops mushy in CW rotation.

However, it's not all good news about this Heli!!

In their endeavour to produce a very good looking sleek Helicopter, JR have made a rather large error in my opinion. The Canopy is way to tight and small at the front. The lipo tray area is to narrow, and lack of space for electronics or Rx Lipo is really annoying.

Taking each item at a time, I will start with the Canopy. There is little to no room at the front for your ESC/Lipo wires and connectors. I have to have the rear lipo's EC5 squeezed between the front lipo and the lower frame side, with it wedged in tight. Then the front lipo's lead has to be threaded up through my ESC leads going towards the back of the heli, and then the connector twisted back forwards to face the front. Now the ESC connector that is facing forwards is twisted up and backwards to connect to the lipo!! Now slide the canopy into place, and your now struggling with getting the front spread apart enough while trying to look inside to line up the front posts and canopy grommets!! Once on, the rear ones are dead easy. After a flight, there is white marks on the power leads where they are cramped into position against the Glass fibre canopy. All this with a small HeliJive! I would like to see how people using a CC 160 will get on!!

The second issue for me is the width of the lower frames. I'm OK with it just, because my chosen brand of Lipo if mounted 'tallways' is fairly narrow. But if you were to buy packs from other company's like Turnegy etc who's lipos are larger in overall size, they will not fit into the Forza. This ideally needs to be at least 10mm wider.

The last point I have already covered in the build thread (re BEC's). Someone suggested to me that if the sloping ESC tray was actually flat, you could have a separate tray/layer there for a 2s lipo to fit into.

So the complete this build thread, I would say from my point of view, that the mechanics of the Heli are first rate. More or less everything was perfectly machined etc, and the overall quality is very high. But the fly in the ointment for me is the severe lack of space under the canopy for your power wires, and the difficulty of fitting the canopy.

I have had 11 flights to date with it, and it's performing very well as to be expected. ( And the Efuel gauge is so good, I'll be buying more for my other Heli's!!)

Just a few quick pictures to show just how little room is at the front inside the canopy. The canopy has its LH front grommet pushed over the RH front post, so its at the exact length as it sits on the frame. This is how much space you get!!
