Without reading any of the other posts fully Id without hesitation say a Wot4. classic design can be beginner to intermediate depending on setup so isnt JUST a trainer. Big enough to see and be stable and wont be reserved to millpond calm days yet light enough to withstand abuse and carry about assembled if required.

perfect. its been around for a while as well although not in current foam guise but the longevity of the design signifies that its well proven. Latest foam model comes with servos and more importantly power train so takes all the guesswork out of finding something suitable - thats a big plus when it comes to fixed wing as often it is often a science determining what exactly is right for the model based upon significant factors.

Ive flown fixed wing for many many years to a reasonable standard although Helis are now my passion.

    +1 on the WOT4 then

Thanks all. Dad was thrilled with Wot4 so looking forward to teaching him. Not having any luck finding the correct buddy lead to hook up my old 7C to my curren 8FG, so may have to do it the old fashioned way of swapping the Tx quickly!

Swapping tx quickly with a Wot4 is a bit marginal - make sure you dumb it down well and don't overdo expo - what is flying like a pussy cat can all of a sudden become a rampant tiger with panic inputs, ask me how I know :-))
My Wot4 just about flies ok now despite my attempts to kill it over the past 6 months, but is a bit heavier than it used to be (hotmelt, epoxy, bamboo bracing sticks etc etc); seriously good plane!!

Yeah I agree, but I'm not sure how else to do it. I was given help and advice on how to make one in my Buddy Lead thread, but it's way beyond me and I can't find any UK shops that stock the lead. What's stopping me from just taking out the battery from the 7C and powering it from the 8FG's battery?
Hi all,

My dad has never flown anything rc but keeps asking to fly my foamie. So for Xmas I was thinking of getting him a hyperion Sniper 3D and getting him into the hobby. Obviously he'll need to kit it out over the new year.

Good idea getting him a 3D straight away? I'm a Futaba user so bnf is not an option? I'll get him on the sim first and dial in plenty of expo etc to tame it down.

Ideally needs to be a cheapish famous that can take a light beating. Please make suggestions :)
wot 4 or riot will be idea! Or any high wing foamy are great to learn on, i learn mostly on a swift not ideal but do able keep it foam tho

Not quite, I was doing ok 3d on Phoenix but lawndarted my Wot4 two packs after it's maiden, not a pretty sight. My advice is don't overestimate abilities - no flying of anything is easy it's an aquired skill - you don't get it without doing it!
