I looked at the WOT 4 e but they seem to be a bit hit and miss on the rear wheel with a few people getting broken ones. I decided to look a bit further and discovered the Max Thrust Riot. It's an ARTF, just needs receiver and battery (11.1V, 2200mAh). Not got it because I don't have a method of carrying it or a smooth enough runway (although I hear it can be hand launched). Check out some vids.

I teach at our club and both the Foam'E WOT 4 and Max Thrust Riot are first class training aircraft.
Rates on and relay docile off and you can do some reasonable aerobatics.

I had the non-FPV Spy Hawk and flew it once. Very durable but even on a calm day it wants to go where it wants to go. A real struggle and grossly underpowered. Climbing is not in its vocabulary. Was fun for the one time I flew it. It did get me more interested hence I rested my eyes on the Riot which (I hear) can handle up to 15-20mph winds (in the hands of a pro I reckon). Looks like it has bags of power.

Acro Wot Foam, superb model, its often the only thing I bother to take to the field.

It will fly very slowly, is quite stable and on low rates I think it would make a great buddy box-trainer

I've flown mine in upto 30mph gusts and it handles wind OK and is great fun in these conditions.

Its very light and the undercarriage is strong, except for the brass axles, replaced mine with M3 bolts, so it will withstand heavy landings.

              Great price too for pnp:

If the Wot 4 Foam is too pricey then so will be the Acrowot... I do agree though... great option for the imporver or keen beginner with some help from someone experienced. Wouldn't recommend it for a total beginner without help though... it is very precise and can be very fast if let loose.

Just had a look at the max thrust riot, does look good indeed.

So folks, it's between the that and the wot 4 foam E. Which is easiest to repair and get spares for?

My only conern is that if it goes in it's going to be a write off, needing another £130 to replace. If I buy a Flash and dial it right down, a crash would likely only write off the airframe, allowing me to reuse electronics.

I have never had a Max Thrust Riot so I can't comment on that but the WOT 4 Foam E is one of the most popular models going so getting spares should be very easy both new and secondhand. It is a Rpimax model so should be available at a lot of model shops.

They are both made of EPO foam so that is pretty much the same. I love EPO... very easy to repair using CA (doesn't have to be foam firendly CA) or hot glue (not too hot!). Dents can be mostly removed using hot water.

You don't have to buy the whole thing is you break things beyond repair. All the parts can be bought separately. Only replace the bits you can't repair. I have never heard of anyone righting everything off beyond repair!

Another for the Wot4 foam-e; mine's taken a right hammering and still flies very well, if that's too expensive and at such short notice basically anything foam, high wing and not too small. The ST Discovery is good but around the same price as the Wot4; the problem is the same as helis anything small can be a bit of a handful - my first plane was a micro sukhoi, it very soon became more glue and tape than foam! One of my favourites at the moment is my Twisted hobbies crack yak, a bit like the Hyperion sniper but a lot cheaper and easier to fly, dumbed down it is nice to fly and dead easy to repair. The flying wings v trainer 4 channel is a cracker, easy to fly and repair, mine has been great fun. Hope you find something suitable before christmas,
                            D
p.s. See you've decided on the Wot4; very good choice!!!

                                Plane for dad for Xmas

I would try an 11 x 4.7 SF to start with. See what load it pulls and adjust from there.
