I had the engine cut in a cessna 150 over Southport and to be honest you go into automatic mode. I headed for the beach but got the engine going again thankfully. It's only when it's over that you shit yourself lol.

Great bit of flying and a gorgeous day to be out in the lakes.
Pitty about the engine.
I bet it gave the locals plenty to talk about for a while.

Fairly common in cross country gliding to land out if the conditions dont allow you to get back. Certainly in gliding you are taught how to identify fields and best crops to land in. There isnt really an option to panic. Without staying calm you dont stand so much chance of living.
I was flying my MPX blizzard with a friend at the field when I noticed peripherally what I thought was an airliner out to sea over the trees at the bottom of the field, No biggie we're near the holding pattern for Newcastle airport. I turned the blizzard around and was amazed to see a small aircraft coming in to land in the very next field!
Exactly the same issue, oil pressure loss! My friend was the first person on scene and confirmed the lad was ok.
He said he was going to land in the field we were in but saw us and diverted to the next one!
It was a surreal experience.
.......unless otherwise stated, all opinions are my own.
Reading the report it looks as though poor maintenance was to blame. the oil pressure scavenge valve had been replaced but not lock wired( i would guess not tightened either) when the engine finally seized the windmilling of the prop sheared the reduction gearbox shaft and so allowed the prop to continue windmilling freely.
