I got a UMX Sbach 342 3D micro last weekend when I went to model shop and it's a lot of fun! I don't find flying it hard (I am decent heli pilot, sports and big air and some 3D), collective (well throttle) is a bit difficult, but nothing too bad. I've been flying it today in 15 mph winds and it was fine (thans to AS3X). Can do aileron rolls, cuban 8, loops etc. If anything, I've been flying it too fast being used to collective 3/4 of the stick on the helis. I'll learn to hover and knife edge in a couple of weeks I suppose :) - tried it on the sim and it was easy, tried some knife edges on real plane today and could hold them for good couple of seconds.
Only thing which bothers me is that I liked it a lot and I think I'll get more planes - eflite have a really good micro line with AS3X on board, they have a Carbon Cub plane with flaps and lights and a glider which can be towed by this plane! How cool is that? :hurray:

I am bit worried that I'll be flying these and it will interfere with my heli flying, I don't really want to go full collective up while inverted on a heli - how do you guys who fly both manage this?

I flew planks for a couple of seasons and have found it a bugger to get back to heli's! getting used to not closing the throttle and using rudder again has been tough!

as said above, i dabbled with planks for a brief time, the main challenge was approach and the landing, but again also depends on the model your choosing to start with. Something like a wot 4, makes you look better than you actually are

I thought so. I'll fly these ocassionaly only and won't be doing any plane simming, just to keep myself from having dual personality syndrome :).

I have the Cub and the glider , flown both but yet to try the aerotow , tomoz is looking good so may try if I can find a volunteer to fly one of them :-) ,

I also have the umx gbee and that's great ! But I do feel the as3x takes a little bit of the skill away.

TBH if you can fly circuits on a CP heli, a decent plane is a breeze. Landing is just judging the approach angle, nothing to worry about.
Tomorrow I am letting a 9 year old have her first flight on a real model plane, my Easy Star II . She is really good on the sim. Will be an interesting experience I think - knowing when to grab the TX back. Looking forward to her landing it.

It was a surprising thing really..She was so cool it was unbelievable - I just flew it to about 150 feet upwind, handed her the TX and said "tell me when you want me to take over"....
And she just flew perfect circuits and eights around herself..
After 5 minutes she said it was enough & I landed it and asked her what she thought...
She said it was easy - easier than the sim and good fun. Then she wanted to go play football.
I think she will be back when she tries a WOT4 - well I hope so anyway.
Damn near 50 years younger than me...
Bugger...
