I've been flying helis for about a year and decided to try a (mini) plank. Got myself a Parkzone mini BNF spitfire. This is my first attempt at flying it ...

Wow that was great for a first flight I thought it would be harder to contol than that, it was the bigger version of that one that first got me looking.

The little mini spitfire is pretty easy I found. If you can fly a heli, a plane seems really easy (at least at this size). The mini one has the advantage that you can just flop it at really low speed into the grass to land it, as without a doubt, landing is the difficult bit! I think it helps if you can fly nose-in.

Not sure about the larger parkzone spitfire, but the mini one has the AS3X electronic stabilisation, which makes it manageable despite its small size.

          Hi Phil.

We appear to be at a similar level in learning (I started just after Chrimbo 2012) and have gone through a Coax, MSRX, MCPX BL (which is my fave ATM) and a 450 3D (which currently gives me 'the fear') and a Trex 250 (which I'm finalising the build on thanks to help from all here)

I was suggested by some members at my club after having issues (mine not the heli) with the 450 3D to get a plank to help with orientation and because they're generally higher in the air, so mistakes give you more time (generally) to rectify.

I was recommended the WOT 4 Foam e, which I bought and I think it's excellent. A guy at the club has buddied me for all my flights, which has been of enormous help, my plane would have been in bits already if not for his help.

The rationale behind the wot 4 is that as you get better, it will too rather than having to keep buying more models. One of the smaller parkzone/eflite planes may be better if you're doing it alone IMO.

          HTH.

The ony thing to remember with (most) planks is that when you're coming up to a tree you can't stop and go backwards - guess how I found that out!

I started with planks and found helis a lot harder and still fly my wot 4 regularly. Some have said that the wot 4 might get boring but I tend to disagree. I find the wot 4 great fun and quite challenging to fly well. The great thing about the wot 4 is that you don't have to fly it well... you can get airborne and just have fun.

What RX would you recommend for a WOT4 would something like a AR6210 with SAT do the trick with the RX mounted inside the plane and the SAT outside somewhere or would they both fit inside ?

No sat required, no carbon blocking signal, I've used the 6000 speccy range on mine, even on my old shuttle :)

Oh right thanks for that, I used a AR6115e on the T-Rex 250 I have just done so would probably go for one of those as I can get one cheap assuming it will fit in as the plugs go in line rather than in the front.

That will be fine Phil. ;)
That's the good thing about planes they are cheap on the electric side of things compared to Heli's,
I find them relaxing to fly after Heli's, good to chill out with. :D

The only downside I can see with the WOT4 is the price of some of the spares the wing seems very expensive to replace should you need to fix it.
