  • My new delta

After a structural failure which killed my Rafalroo a few months back (went in at full chat on a low pass)

Been using the poor flying weather to make a replacement.

Gone electric on this one. Was hoping to maiden tomorrow, but my BEC doesn't support 4s, so will have to wait till next week. Pretty simple to build. Will post a vid hopefully !!
    Cheers,
    Simon

That red plane hasn't been crashed at all. It's just a scrape. A bit of glue and it would be back in the air in a few minutes.

I bet the electric one will be quick.

Problem with these deltas is they are pretty tough, but the 1/4 inch balsa runs across the wing with no spar, so if you break it's back a rebuild is out of the question as the fuselage is built on top of the wing. This was the photo after I'd sort of folded it flat. See that small tear on the right wing in the covering, it was that delaminating which caused the crash.

Never was a fan of this type of aircraft, but I had so much fun with the first one, I thought I'd try another. Not sure how fast it will be, but should be fun.
        Cheers,
        Simon

Here is an earlier shot in the build. All balsa wing from 6mm sheet. Sides are 2mm lite ply with balsa top and bottom.

Gone for better contrasting colours top and bottom on this one. My Rafalroo was red and yellow chequers underneath but it all looked the same at speed.

My new one is a mini kangaroo from rc model world. It was a free plan in 2005 I think. Meant for 30-46 ic but I wanted to try an electric set up on 4s. It's running a 9x7.5e prop on an 1100kv motor pulling about 50 amps, 600 odd watts.
          Cheers,
          Simon

I used to build these over 30 years ago from a free Model Mag plan it was called a Draken, based on the Swedish Plane. I flew then with an Irvine 20 and after a crash I converted one into a Canard.
Been there and done that, but never stop learning.
Now too many Helis to mention?

Vinny I was flying both Saturday and Sunday, only flew the 600 Nitro, I left all the battery powered toys in the toy box.
                    As for the planes....
I started to read some if the threads in the plane section, theres only a few dozen threads But I found them more interesting than half of the latest posts on the front page, to tell the truth I think there was a few of us that found it quite informative and refreshing to read by the number if returned posts.
I would say I'll start a debate on it,, but the thread would only be closed. :D
