Mixed feelings on this but I prefer buyers to PM me rather than post on the thread itself - partly because I don't look at the thread very often once I've posted it.
When I buy anything its all completed through PM's & Emails
I have had people comment on some sale threads saying "Its X amount at such n such it should be cheaper" - I'd be pleased to see those sort of comments banished BUT I have also had people add further information to the sale thread (Shortly after posting so its not really that much of a bump is it) - which of course the information they provide helps others with their purchase decision... but i agree this could be done through PMs and the original thread edited.
I'm not so sure about Automatic 2 day bumps because some people are too lazy to mark their ads as sold - so you would need to address this else we'll have threads that never go away.
Whatever you do I'll be happy with as long as the for sale section stays - I think its a great place to exchange things with each other and on the whole works well.
I have used the For Sale thread a few times lately to sell off surplus gear and to release funds for other projects. I am very much in favour of no posting and 48hr bumping. Everyone has PM'ed me questions, and everyone I have sold to has been very happy with their purchase. Also, I do mark my posts as Sold as soon as I have received payment.
Forgive me Lee, thought Mods had that access too. Your right it should never come to it. But the facility is there should situations arise and things do go tits up

A for sale appeared recently that I was busting to buy. A friend called me as soon as it appeared. I was at the field and spent ages trying to reply thinking that my account was locked. I then phoned my mate to reply and he couldn't.
We both then pm'd the seller but it was too late. It had gone to someone else.
I hear what you say, but you could have replied via PM to the seller, or your friend could have PMed on your behalf as you were at the field.
I have received a PM from a guy who has asked me to hold an item as he knew his mate was desperate for that item, but he could not get hold of him to contact me. I did, and his mate bought it.
Personally I think the move not to reply is for the greater good. Last purchased I had on this forum was a revo blades and two people seems to be interested, while I dont reply to the section as I know it will bump it to the top I did because they are arguing who's gonna get it. seller checked his inbox and got the blades. Same as the post always saying "sold pending payment", it was removed and just edit the post to sold to avoid bumping. Pm is the way to go. Bmfa does it and it works, what's the difference in here. People seems to always to be reluctant to changes but give it time and we will soon get used to it.

You are of course right. And I did.
Too late.
There was also the time when I did reply to an advert by pm. Got offered the item. Then someone else offered more money after my offer was accepted. To be told sorry.
In the uk this practise would be considered a breach of contract. If the sale was only concluded via the open forum section then this illegal activity could be avoided. There may be an argument that says that by forcing the information behind the scenes this behaviour is being encouraged.
There is also the argument that I may be biased because I missed out on my dream heli. Lol.
Now I have thought about it for a while I have mixed feelings about the changes.
On the one hand I can see that constant posting to a For Sale thread just keep bumping it to the top unfairly. On the other hand I feel that relevent discussion can often clarify just what is being sold and its condition. For example, suppose I am selling a heli and I don't mention something about it in the hope that no one asks. If someone asks on the thread, in public, then the answer is then there for all to see. That question never needs to be asked again and everyone knows the situation. However, under the current rules that question must be asked via PM and although the seller might answer it honestly to that particular PM they might choose not to amend the advert with the relevent reply. So no one else benefits from that question being asked.
I am not for a minute suggesting that there are lots of people selling stuff dishonestly. I have bought and sold lots here and never had any issues and the impression I get is that the issues are infrequent. However, under the current rules the seller is not forced to disclose replies to proper and relevent questions whereas under the old rules they were because they were asked in public.
I would prefer to have a system where by the For Sale section is properly moderated and non-relevent posts removed and the poster warned. I think the new system really benefits no one except the moderators. Sorry Stu... I think you and the mods do a great job but I think this is a step in the wrong direction.

On eBay you can be asked questions, and it's the seller who chooses if they want to reply publicly. I think the focus needs to be on seller feedback. (Which would be another good addition to the site).
Illegal activity?.....lol.

As you are quoting eBay, once it's sold it's sold.
And yes, illegal. For my sins I have to work with procurement specialists on a regular basis. And it is a breach of contract. And if you think it doesn't affect private individuals you are sadly mistaken. It may not be worth pursuing but even to say that it's sold constitutes a contract.
