  • GV1 problem

I had my first go at loops this weekend.
I was buddied up and my mate did the first one.
Everytime I did the loop the GV1 came off at the top of the loop.
We checked the throttle curve and increased it to 50% at bottom stick. Tried again and the same thing happened. I had flight mode 2 set up for full 3D +9 -9 and a V-curve for the throttle. Tried it on this setting and the GV1 stayed on.
The only difference between the two modes is the 1st mode has -6 to +9 and 50-75-100 the mode2 has -9 to +9 and 100-50-100

Any ideas as to why it came off in Mode1 and could it just be the way I way flying the loop as it never came off when the instructor flew the loop. :?:

An other point is I was using the training radio he was using mine.

The set up is a raptor 50 with MS blades, OS 50 engine using magnum 12% fuel.

What transmitter do you have, with mine I don't set any % for the GV-1 it works off my stick position to turn it on within normal flying and whien I goto idle 1 or 2 it has preset headspeeds for each flying mode.

    normal = 1450
    idle 1 = 1650
    idle 2 = 1750

You can check on the GV-1 screen when its activated at what position on the sitck, plus what % do you have on the sensor reading anything under 60% will not work or if the head drop's below 1000 then again it will not work.
    Cheers

      Stuart,
      I have a JR 9.
The GV1 is set off two stick positions, one switches it on and off the other for the head speeds, the sensor reads 97% at max.

The GV1 needs the throttle above 20% and the head speed must be reached and held for two seconds I think.

I have checked the GV1 on the ground and it switches on and the correct speed is selected by the switch.

The only thing I can put it down to is the engine bogging and the GV1 disengaging. It was strange that it did not do it when my transmitter was being used on its own by another pilot.
He had it doing extreme 3D without any problems.

Next time the weather is ok I'll try the loops on my own and see if it still comes off.

I tried to recreate it on the sim and if I pull the cyclic all the way back at the start of the loop the head speed drops off at the top. I might have been applying too much cyclic at the field and bogging the engine.

I'll let you know how I get on. Looking at the weather it could be a long wait.

      Thanks,

      Rick

Okay I have the JR 9X too, the slider bar on the left of the TX determines for me the on / off master switch.

So if the slider is at the top i.e. GV-1 ON, then as soon as my stick pass's 20% the GV-1 will engage for normal @ 1450.

Then after that its down to the idle positions = what headspeed I've preset.

The two stick positions maybe your problem
        Cheers

I have the GV1 on-off on the gear switch and the speed selector on the Aux2 switch which is assigned to Aux3 .

It works fine for normal flying but it switched off at the top of the loop in flight mode 1. In flight mode 2 it was fine.

It might have been down to the buddy setup.

I'll hopefully get to give it a try this week.

          Thanks

          Rick

            Hi Rick,

One thing you could check is the stick switch position in the GV1, if you go to the StSw (or something similar) and run through the scenario's you had it will tell you if the GV1 is sensing a switch on or switch off command from the transmitter.

I found that even with the on/off and rpm auxillary controls if the stick switch function was enabled it did mess things up a bit.

On my setup, I have a Futaba 9ZHP WC2 which uses a switch for on/off and the left slider as the rpm control, the throttle stick doesnt change anything on the GV1.

            Cheers,

            Pete.

              Hi Raptorite,

I've disabled the stick switch as you suggested.

The sensor holder broke this week and the replacement has just arrived.
With any luck I'll try it tommorow and let you know.

I've been able to sort out my mixture at last, its taken a while but it flew without any mixture problems last Monday so it should be fine on the GV1

              Thanks Rick

                Hi Rick,

Its good to hear you have the mixture sorted, that can also give the GV1 a hard time. I hope you get the sensor sorted and have a sucessful flight next time out.

                Cheers,

                Pete.

                  Hi Raptorite,

Senor sorted and the rappy flys as well with or without the GV1.

Not good enough to give it a good thrashing but I know a man that can and he should be able to over the weekend.

                  Thanks,

                  Rick
