  • Recommended fuel for Raptor 50

It would seem that Magnum fuel is well rated on here. I would guess that a fully synth 20% fuel would be suitable for my new Raptor 50 with OS50SX-H Hyper ?
Do I need to mail order Magnum fuels from Skyline in 4 gallon boxes or is it obtainable in Surrey in single gallons ? Dont really want to lay out 75 on fuel if I dont have to as I am skint after buying the heli and all.

PM John at Magnum Fuels for your local stockist, I'd get a bottle or two of some 20% Fuel, plus anyone local to you thatif you need to mail order you could split the cost with.
    Cheers

Most people I know fly with Contest 10 but the 2% castor (I think that is the %) makes a right mess of the polished alu.

I plan to run fully synth in the Raptor to keep it clean and healthy, the OS50SX-H Hyper needs 18% minimum oil and I believe that the Magnum fuel contains more than this.

      I will PM John

        Hi Rob,

You are correct on both counts there, the Contest 10 does have 2% castor and the minimum oil content OS specify their engines should run on is indeed 18%.

I run all my helis, with the exception of the 90, which now runs on Racing 30, on Contest 10. Yes, it does tarnish the pipes a little after a while, I normally clean mine off every 2 months or so when they have their routine maintenance.

        Cheers,

        Pete.

I used to run my Nexus on Contest 10 and it certainly performed better than when running it on Duraglo 10. Was not worries about the pipe going brown on that but would prefer to run fully synth on the Rappy to keep it all clean.
I also plan to run 20% as this also seems to be becoming the norm as far as I can tell... I notice that there is a 12% Magnum fuel so what does everyone think ?

          12% or 20% ?

Maybe I should open a poll

I'm using Southern Models 10%. It also has 2% castor and I've run it in all my engines from the OS 32 SX-H in the hawk to my new 61 AAR P5 in the R60. Happily, I can report that the engines have not faltered in any way.

However, I'm not doing any serious aerobatics, so cannot say if this would be a factor or not. I'm interested in trying out the Magnum 12%, but it seems a little scarce in Kent, and to go with Rod, I'm reluctant to splash out on a case of 4.

I am hoping to take a trip up to Skyline models on Saturday to get some fuel and a Crank locking tool for the OS50.

Still not sure whether I should use 12% or 20% though

Would not put a piston lock tool anywhere my OS32 or my sparkling new OS50 Hyper that has arrived today I will let you know.

Even my GF said that the Hyper looks gorgeous

Took a trip up to Skyline Models on Saturday and purchased a bottle of 12% and a bottle of 20% so I can now decide which to use in the long term.

Stuart to keep you happy I will post some pics of the Raptor (proably later today), once I have finished the wiring and remote glow install.

                          Rob,

Have to say that heli's been built with some serious care & attention, looking very smart indeed.

Thanks Stuart much appreciated, lots of hard earned cash been put into this.

Have sorted out the rudder servo horn now (it got missed before the photos!). Will hopefully be ordering up some aluminium horns from Quick UK shortly as well as a base loaded aerial. Quite fancy a yellow canopy from carbon copy as well but all funds dependant.

Ran up the engine on Saturday using Magnum 12%, started 1st blip on the starter. Ran it only for a few minutes quite rich but got the rotors up to hover speed (without governor).

I really wouldn't bother with the ali arm from quick uk for the tail, yes it will be strong, but if you have a tail crash, it will surely strip your tail gears as the horn won't break like a plastic one. That's not to say a plastic will save you servo as I've stripped a few, but its more of a dead cert with the aluminium one.

I've ordered a bright yellow canopy from Carboncopy for my Milli, I was promised that it will arrive this week as they had to build one up, so I can't wait.

I'll post some pics when it gets here.
                              Cheers
