  • Raptor 50 purchase imminent

I have started buying the required bits 'n' bobs for my upcoming purchase of a Raptor 50, so I have no delays once I have the kit.

I plan to migrate the Throttle Jockey Pro from my current heli and as such will need to buy a new pair of magnets. Can anyone confirm whether the stock fan has the required recesses for the magnets or should I order up a Quick UK cnc'd fan ?

I am also trying to work out what sort of size Rx pack I should run in the new heli, erring towards a 3600 Sanyo. I will be running 3 Futaba 9252's for collective and cyclic with a 401 and 9254 on the tail. Probably a 3001 on throttle although may use my Hitec 5925. This would mean digital throughout (or nearly depending on throttle) so I think a decent power Rx pack is a necessity.

Any recommendations on main and tail rotor blades ? I guess I should run carbon instead of the supplied blades I prefer sealed tips (for neatness and preferably white (so you can see them - safety)

Hopefully the stock exahust is plenty good enough to start with as money is tight...

Any other upgrades etc that you can suggest for the heli prior to build that are more necessity than "bling".

    hi Rob,

I'm almost certain that the Raptor 50 fan has the recess for the magnets, and so does the Quick UK fan.

Your right about getting a decent battery pack.

If your looking for white blades then I would opt for a set of SAB blades for both main and tail.

Other than a header tank and possibly a tail pushrod kit from NHP, I think you've got it all just about covered.
    Cheers

I thought that the Raptor 50 came with a header tank these days, seem to remember reading it on the spec anyway... I have one from my Nexus so will make use of that if not, or maybe anyway as its a nice piece of kit.

I was not sure if the Raptor 50 had a boom mounted tail servo, I will look at the options but guess its either the Quick UK or NHP solution... guess the NHP is carbon based

Thanks for the help (again) Stuart.

          Hi Rob,

Yes, the stock plastic fan that comes with the raptor 50 kits does have the recesses for governor magnets, so does the header tank you have already mentioned.

Its a good idea to get a decent RX pack as all those digital servos will certainly sapp a fair amount of power.

I hope the build goes well.

          Cheers,

          Pete.

I have just recieved a GP3300 4.8v pack from Overlander which should be able to cope with the demands of the digital servos
I have also ordered up an NHP carbon tail pushrod and servo mount, a set of carbon 3D fins, a pair of NHP tail blades and NHP Razer Pro mains oh and not forgetting the spare magnets for the TJ Pro. Revolution models were as helpfull as ever as were Overlander

Should have the 9252's soon and am now sorting out the cash for the Rappy and 401 with 9254. Once this is done I only need to source an engine, still keen to get the OS50 Hyper although they seem to be similar to rocking horse $#![ at the moment

I can hardly wait although wallett is taking a bashing

Just Hi Jacking your thread - I was asked at the field tonight if a new O.S. 50 Hyper will fit into the Rappy 50 without any modifications?

I guess I should say no to keep the demand for these down until I have managed to get hold of one Not got the cash at the mo so it will have to wait until pay day as a minimum.

The physical size as far as I have found out is almost identical to the OS50SXH so I dont think there are any problems. I did find a thread on another forum that said that it fits without a problem.

If you wait long enought I will post it here but it all depends on when I can get one. They are hard to find anywhere at the mo.

It all depends on cost though I know someone who sells them for 130 whereas the normal shops have them at 170. However need must and I may get desperate for one as I should have the Raptor 50 and 401 with 9254 and 3 x 9252's this weekend

Got woken up this morning by the mail delivering my Razor Pro mains and tail rotors, tail servo mount and pushrod and 3D fins thanks for the quick turn around (as always!) Revolution Models shame they hadn't managed to find the spare TJ Pro magnets though, lost them after the 3D masters  If anyone knows of a source for the TJPro magnets...

G-Dave, here is a thread confirming that they fit...

                      http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t119113p1/

Also found a nice bit of info on the JDM website for OS...

                      http://www.os-engines.co.jp/english/...0sxh/index.htm

So the only difference is the head (additional cooling is no bad thing) and the carb being the 60L which manages to extract an additional 0.1 BHP over the standard OS50SX-H.

                        Dedcalm,

I would consider a Lion battery pack for the RX with all those digitals on it - then you can fly all week without recharging!!

Never thought about Li-ion for Rx to be honest...

I now have a GP3300mah 4.8v Sub C pack from Overlander so this should suffice for the time being

                          Also picked up the Raptor 50 kit, Futaba 401 with a 9254 servo and 3 9252 servo's

Only need an engine and the TJ magnets now...

Going to start the build tomorrow

Just ordered up an OS50 SX-H Ring Hyper from Midland Helicopers. They have only just re-opened after their move and after some phoning about seem to be the only place with these engines in stock. Also got a decent fuel filter and some magnets for my TJ Pro so all complete now.

Spent yesterday afternoon and evening (they rolled into one) on the build on the Raptor 50. What a superb kit, everything is packed sensible and well organise. Very impressed! all complete except for the radio and engine installation.
