probably the servo was just staying where it was.

Check your satellite wires. Or even better, just throw them away and get new ones. If there is a short circuit, it will shut down the whole receiver, instantly, no time for failsafe to engage. And those wires harden in a nitro atmosphere and rub through.

I also own one dodgy satellite that sometimes blinks randomly at startup. I do blame that one for a couple of crashes.
If you observe random blinking at power-up, take the satellite and set it on a new trajectory towards the thrash bin

PS I had to set up a Futaba 8 ch Tx today. I love my dusty old DX7 now more than ever, it's so simple.

      Hey.

Could you perhaps plug in one of the Spektrum data logger units to record antenna fades, failsafes and holds? This little unit might give you a better idea of what might be going on.

When my DSX12 failed (turned out to be the Spektrum RF board going low RF) I lost control of the model for a few seconds before regaining control again, the data logger then showed antenna fades into the 500~600 per aerial, with a good handful of holds.

Failing that were you flying with more than 40 others on Spektrum or in a noisy area?! :-)
