  • OS 55 HZ R - Help / Problems

    Hi

I am a lecky man through and through, but thought that I would dable in the world that is nitro's.

So, after some research, I bought a 55 HZ R and fitted it to a new 3D+ and also purchased an OS55 pipe.

Anyway, after reading the manual, I set the medium and high speed jets and it fired up - great!

    Off the field we go!

Whilst hovering it about, and then going into idle 1 and doing a bit of mild 3D - the engine rev's went mad and then I heard a crack type sound....

Landed it and immediately noticed that the whole jet assembly was loose and the regulator was just about hanging off ....

Now it will not start and I suspect that it is cream cracker d!

What do you suggest I do?

I know heli's well, but am new to nitro's. I read the manual before running it. I have since been told to check every screw etc.... but this is not highlighted in the manual...

    Shall I sent it back?

    Gareth

Take the head off to see if it has put a hole in the piston would be the next step, or just turn the crankshaft to check compression.

After that, get on to the retailer you bought it from and go from there.

Bloody Heck Gareth.. new engine.. set the needles and whacked it into IU??

Have you got any pics? I'd echo what Paul says and take it apart to check the piston and compression.. try the retailer first as we all know what Ripmax is like!

Think I would have run the engine in perhaps for a few tanks :0)

              Erm...

Idle one is a V curve with 50% at the bottom. I only went to idle 1 because then I could fly inv. - not hammering it, just gentle inv flying. whats up with that?

You have to bed it in Gareth.. even the manual says so.. I believe off the top off my head.. it states run it in at half turn from optimum settings.. are you sure you read the manual mate!

I dont even take a heli off the ground with a new engine.. I idle min of 2 tanks before I even condisider taking it off the ground into a gentle hover.. then I get some heat in it after that with some power climbs etc.. Hope you aint caused too much damage.

                    Hi

Oh well, I figured that the run in would be like the very highly strung race engines I get involved with .... prolonged low load or rpm when new is a very bad thing, as is thrashing it. Loading without heavy loading, revs without excessive revs is, by far, the safest way to break in bearings / bushes / cylinders. I know four stroke engines are a long way from these two strokes, so I seriously bow to superior knowledge and experience....

I whipped the head off and the top of the piston looks fine, except of course for the the little bits of metal filings just sitting on top of it.
