  • HMRC warns of phishing tax rebate scam

Got email on my aol account from refunds@hmrc.gov.uk on a sunday for a Tax Refund Notification, lol surely if you want to scam why send on a Sunday.

But i thought I would post might save someone some crap!

HMRC has warned tax payers to be aware of the latest email 'phishing' scam.
The scam involves an 'official-looking document asking for bank or credit cards details so that HMRC can make a repayment of overpaid tax. HMRC has produced a list below of recent fraudulent emails that have been brought to its attention. If you suspect you have received a fraudulent email HMRC advices not to follow any links within the email, disclose any details or respond to it. Forward it to HMRC at phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk.

Previous forms have shown a potential tax rebate using the email addresses of:

    service@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk
    claims@hmrc.direct.gov.uk
    notice@hmrc.gov.uk
    hmrc@hmrc.gov.uk
    admin@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk
    info@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk
    no-reply@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk

HMRC does not send out emails using these email addresses.

and it seems also refunds@hmrc.gov.uk is for the refund scam!
