  • Where to go from here?

Ok, I'm in a quandry. I have three heli's, a blade 130x, a logo 400se and another heli which is in my posession, but not fully mine and too precious to enjoy to the full, a 90 sized nitro which will remain in my ownership for the forseeable future.

The 130x can go soon, I have no interest in flying it, the logo I really like, but battery costs are considerable and I always worry about killing it in a crash. I don't know what I want and am stuck in making a decision. My options are extremely limited due to ZERO funds.

I am mostly interested in flying a heli with rescue mode. I have been looking at the option of buying an oxy 3 with an ikon flybarless receiver, but I think, after selling the 130x and the logo, I would not have sufficient funds, so, my options are:

1: selling the 130x and the mini v bar on the logo 400se and fitting an ikon flybarless receiver and getting possibly a battery or two for the logo(no batteries at the momment)

2: Sell the 400se and the 130x and get a new blade 180cfx and then fit an ikon flybarless receiver, and spend the extra on lots of batteries.

Here is my situation: I do not fly in a club...I only fly in the summer and in parks and on common land. I need the heli to be cheap and that can be by firstly being cheap to repair, or, by being more easily protected from a crash in first instance(or both is best). Also it needs to be easy to take on day trips with the family, hence the idea of the 180cfx.

That's my thought's any ideas(waky/wonderful) considered... fire away!

Zero funds is a tough one! The OXY 3 is really the one to aim for and once you bite the bullet on initial cost it's then very cheap to run. Batteries are cheap, crash costs are cheap, electronics are cheap and it's more or less maintenance free. It also flies so much better than the 180 CFX that you really cannot talk about them in the same breath. It's not that the 180 is a bad heli, it really isn't, but the OXY is simply in another league. Having said that I will fly my 180 CFX in parks where I wouldn't dare with the OXY, but I am pretty conservative in that respect. A 180 with a micro-brain/Ikon and Lynx tail assembly would be about as good a micro as you can get until the OXY 2 is released. It's certainly a big upgrade over the 130X and far easier to service.

I think pete is spot on in his assessment BUT zero funds means zero choices lol , I think to use rescue you have to be a reasonably confident

I would say there are two choices, with the decision coming down to which model you either prefer, or feel more comfortable flying in parks and/or around people.

For me personally the Logo 400 SE is a darn big model to be flying in a park, for myself I even avoid flying my 360mm Gaui X3 in public spaces, I'll only fly if I know it's a quiet spot and it's very unlikely people, especially kids or dogs will come along. There's a lot of energy in larger blades, and even after you land they take a while to spool down.

But, that decision is down to you, and I reckon your best two options are:

              • If you like the 400se and want to keep it, sell the 130X and invest in a flybarless system with bailout. The Spirit is probably my top choice for you, it's one of the cheapest units out there, has a great reputation, and the I've seen nothing but praise for the bailout. The new MSH Brain2 would be a close second choice, the bailout isn't as well proven yet, but it has a ton of features, and MSH are pushing hard at the moment.
              • If you're thinking of a smaller model, sell the 130X and 400 SE and pick up either the new Blade 250CFX, or an Oxy3 plus a bailout equipped FBL. The Blade is the cheaper option, and comes with rescue as standard. The Oxy3 is a much higher quality model with a superb reputation, low crash costs, and a ton of flexibility.

Either choice will give you bailout, which will reduce the chance of a crash, and in the long run keep your spending to a minimum. A small model gives you more flexibility for flying in small parks, and going on holiday, and will mean cheaper crash and battery costs in the long run. However it does mean taking a hit on the value of the 400 SE as you sell it.

You would IMO be better off going for option 1 but unfortunately logo's are not cheap to repair. I personally would sell your 130 and the logo and maybe buy a Trex 500 where parts are pretty cheap and pop a FBL unit that has bail out on it. Batteries are cheap enough from Hobbyking for the 500 around £20 each. It really is pointless owning a heli if you are too scared to fly it, it just becomes a shelf queen.

Think most of us could say we have zero funds but to keep in with this hobby your going to need to find funds, so help us with a budget you have in mind & then we can come up with more realistic ideas.

                    Zero funds ! LOL!

Anyway, if you're looking for something OXY-3 sized, but with rescue. The Blade 270CFX comes out of the box with a rescue-enabled AR7210BX.

But how much will that give you, are they up on the, For Sale, we all have some good advise but difficult without a budget in mind.

I'd say most of us on the forum would need to find funds for another heli, or at least sale items.
