Blind curiosity but how does one overspeed?

Hey dudes.

Bit of blind curiosity really as my mechanical sympathy would stop me from trying it, but just how exactly do you do one of them overspeeds that everyone is doing lately?

Gaz how did you end up in Heliwidows forum mate?

On the silly maneouvre you're on about the Mcstupid (Mcdoogle) it's forcing the heli to overspeed in a descent to something approaching 3000 rpm, bear in mind that most blades are limited by the manufacturer to 2100 or so it's only time before something happens to the blades. The governor in the ESC can't prevent the overspeed as its air over the blades taking outside of it's capability.

Think auto but with a 2000 headspeed with no bleed off because the engine/motor is still on and then flaring at the bottom, the result of adding pitch is to speed up

Yeah that's it! It's a bit of an "it" move at the moment as in everyone seems to be doing them. Some folks think it's madness and some like it. Me personally I love watching them, I think they're very impressive looking (and sounding!)

I assume your referring to 700 class helis?

Impressive to see and do but it doesn't do the heli any good, blades seem to suffer from these moves, there have been instances where they let go/explode.

Yes I am but even 600 blades are limited in their recommended max headspeeds. I don't know about smaller helis as I have no experience with them but it would be difficult to wind the head up on a 450 that much I would have thought

take it up really high , no even higher , push the nose down almost vertical, center the pitch , maybe even a touch of negative watch it fall , just before it hits the ground pull in back elevator at the same time as dropping the pitch (if its right side up) , get ready for the flybarless unit to freak when it hits a stupid 3K plus on the rotorhead .

haha that's one way to write them off It does sound awesome though, I do it with my Fusion 50. I go up and to pirouetting tail slide and when I level out it overspeeds a little and sounds brilliant. I do more of a hard stop than a dismount otherwise the align blades would likely explode haha.

I bought some expensive Align blades (expensive for me because I usually buy Turnigy) for my 600 recently.
It said on the box, do not exceed 2200 rpm. That seems a bit low for a 600 even without over speeding but then what do I know?

It's not low Mike, not at all. Normal nitro headspeed with hyper 50 is around 2056 on an Align 600, thats puts the engine in it's powerband. Thats a good 3D headspeed, a sport flying hs would be around 1950. The high hs with electric is uncalled for in most situations, maybe the extra weight of the leccy requires the higher headspeed
