  • Removing weight to balance blades?

Is there a way of balancing blades with out the tape as i dont want to mess up the pretty design on the radix. I know that some blades are balanced by drilling little holes in them at the manufactures and was wondering how i would know where to drill a little hole my self.

The blades where balanced ok but a screw came out of my boom supports and hit the blades taking a chunk out of the leading edge i have filled it up with epoxy and repainted it but now its obviously heavier than the other.

I've never balanced blades before so i thought id ask first before bodging later

    Trex 500 CF
    Trex 600N Flybarless V-bar
    Trex 600N Kasama Srimok
    Trex 700

My heli works as an ornament. . . At least it stays in one piece!!

once youve spent almost £100 on koll blade balancer, the best and only one i use now,

then you might be able to drill small holes on the under side of the blade and drop small lead shot in it and fill the hole up again with drop of ca glue to bond the fibres together, once dry fill the hole with two hour epoxy.

i have never actually tried this method myself . as i find trev burleys blades dont last long enough to warrent the time and effort.

what i do is find the chord wise balance first and add lead weight to the trayling egde of the light blade on the underside as close to the bolt hole as possible. i fix the correct amout of lead with expoy and allow to cure.

next i find the spanwise balance and transfer the centre of gravity of the heaviest blade to the light blade and i just use tape and apply this to the light blade until it has the same centre of gravity of the heavy blade.

both blades now have the same c of g , but are now difference weights so i put tape around the C of G of the light blade to bring it all back into balance.

the hole job takes about two hours.

I'd say best leave the blade structure well alone, start drilling hole all over the place on things that are a dangerous as blades your asking for trouble if you don't know what you are doing, if your blades are that bad then buy a new pair.
      Clones are bad

      .... that includes Align ones

he did already mention there was a chunk missing from the blade any way
