  • trex 450 dfc and tx problem?

hello all,i'm new here and new to 450 size RC heli's

I have invested in a nice trex 450 dfc RTF comes with a T6 tx from ALIGN ,i got it hovering very nice in a large field was very happy with it,when it just dropped from the sky and landed heavy but luckily no damage done was only 3ft up from the ground thank god,i put some 500 size skids on the 450 which probably saved it from tipping over aanyway when i tried the tx with the heli it wasn't bind-ed to the heli??? had to go through the binding process to takeoff again, but decided that's enough till i get to the bottom of the problem and took it home

its made me a little nervous to fly it now as i don't want it to happen when i progress to FFF
    any help much appreciated

    thanks oddsockneil

Are you the guy who nicked my socks? I've got odd ones too!
The bump on that flight might have just "shocked" the receiver and lost the connection. If you re-bind as normal it should be ok. Check everything very carefully. It shouldn't drop suddenly. If you're learning to hover, make sure you don't have too much negative pitch. You only need about 1 degree or even 0 degrees negative while hover training. If you panic, the negative pitch will slam it into the ground when you shut off the throttle. Anyway, disconnect the motor and switch everything on and carefully recheck all links and control movements. If it drops again without your input, check you are not running the battery too low, and failing that, hopefully someone on here will be able to assist. We could do with a bit of info as to what you were doing when it dropped to help with clues as to the problem.

My socks are normal - I'm odd! Enough about socks; this is a helicopter forum!

I wish I could help more but what happened to your heli isn't very specific. I've had a fair bit of experience with the 450 3D and also have the "X" variant. As you had got to the hover stage I assume you were set up correctly. But as say, check everything carefully and try again, but make sure your pitch curve (especially negative) is no more than about 1 degree. And you don't want too much positive pitch either or you may shoot up too high and panic. Once you're happy with hovering, you then increase your pitch for flying higher.

trex 450 dfc and tx problem?

Just wanted to add, I wouldn't do away with all of your negative pitch

One big gust of wind could take your Heli away, you want upto 4 degrees of negative pitch to be able to get down through stronger winds

Oddsock, it depends what stage you're at. MarkGR1 is right, but I'm assuming you are just learning to hover and not higher than a foot or so off the ground. If you are flying higher, yes, you need negative pitch as i already said, but I say again, if you are learning to hover, a panic and shutting the throttle quickly will bring your heli down quite hard, and this is what I'm trying to help you avoid. Now you know what we're both saying - you need to decide! You can always put a big pile of odd socks under your heli and land on them!!!

just a update on the problem i was having with the loss of connection to the heli just in case anyone else as a similar problem with this model, well i moved the two antennas on the heli so they hang outside the carbon body( they was inside the carbon bodywork at first)they are still parallel to each other and flue three batteries this morn with no problems so fingers crossed its sorted
love this 450 its sooo locked in and a joy to fly I'm made up with it,still only tale in and side in hover at the mo,still going to book a couple of flyin lessons soon though

got big smile on me mush today

Glad you got that sorted out. I suggested to someone else that they check their antennas and do a full range check with the model in different orientations to make sure the signal is getting through. Carbon frames stop radio signals so always make sure the antenna is is free air, preferably away from carbon fiber parts. Good luck with the training.

                          HI Oddsock,
I'm also new to the hobby and glad you got your issue sorted, just thought tho that it would be a good idea for you to id lock your TX to your receiver so it wont get confused with other signals!
Makes the binding process alot faster to.

hello 3ndurance,sorry only just seen your reply pal,how would i LOCK my TX to the receiver,i just go through the binding process by turning on the TX then connect the battery to the heli then wait till the beeps have done, then i just check the binding light on the 3gx is solid and up it goes,i hopeif you have a better way,or im dont something wrong your help would be appreciated

                            thanks

I've done a little digging around on the web regarding your TX and can't find anything about this function on your transmitter !
It might be worthwhile just checking through your general settings to see if there is any options for ID lock or ID code!
By default this would be set inh so changing to act will enable the code pairing at which point you either change the number to something you can remember or take a note of it .
When this is set the TX and RX will only bind under that code and other signal will be ignored!
