  • Beginner Moves?

    Hi All,

I purchased my Msr X about 1 month ago, i mostly fly indoors ATM due to the poor weather. I have been outdoors once and it was great fun.

Can you point me in the right direction in what beginner moves i should be practicing?

    Thanks again.

    Re: Beginner Moves?

Hover in ALL directions. Take off land in ALL directions. That should keep you going for a while.

Totally agree with Abode, I find it amazing how many ppl can not land nose in, makes me laugh the amount of ppl you see flying around yet when they come into land they have to revert to tail in and bring heli back to them for a landing, looks retarded imo.

After you are comfortable with the above go on to forwards flight and circles both forwards and backwards.
Everyone learns differently but whatever you do just have fun.

Retarded if you cant land nose in, a bit strong! It took me a couple years to do it and I still land either tail in or side on. Tend to land nose into wind but that's what I was taught. Suppose it's whatever you get used to.

Can only echo the same as above all orientations and be comfortable before flying about. Kids pick it up quicker than 40 something's.

I could flip and roll before I could properly hover, let along hover nose in?

Why is it you can't reply to a post these days in a positive way without some sarcy answer. Very well done you can land nose in, many may not be able to do so. I'm far from sad just don't see that landing tail on or otherwise can be viewed as you put it retarded. Many are happy to keep it in the air in whatever attitude. Instead of help to a beginner he's now being party to a pointless post.

It would make me laugh because if you got out of shape during a flip IE ended up nose in you'd be puckered as you didn't learn your orientations first (-:

When people can only land tail in they have missed a fundamental stage of learning to fly a helicopter, it's really important that people are comfortable in all orientations, it will really help people in future but at the end of the day it's what ever makes that person happy.

                      Re: Beginner Moves?

I still land most of time tail or side but I have forced myself to learn nose in. I said to learn nose in because it makes auto's easier. To this day my backward auto's are way better.

As above. I think it's best to get all basics in one hit rather than those back to basic times.

Well, at my club there are some truly great flyers and one of them ranked 4th in the 3D nationals - he and everyone else I have seen at the club always lands nose out or across. I have never yet seen a nose in landing that was intentional.

I guess that it is a skill worth developing but certainly not something that any beginner, or even intermediate flyer should concern themselves with in my opinion.

I quite enjoy nose in landings, I haz spent many a pack perfecting them (-; but the main thing is to have fun.

I think it's a good exercise on the sim because it forces you to be really accurate. In real life it's good to be comfortable hovering in all orientations as it will translate to lots of other maneuvers but chances are you'll rarely need to land nose-in except possibly in the case of a forced auto.

Thanks for all the feedback, i'll have a practice at nose in hovers. Very similar to my RC buggy days when you came back down a race track towards the rostrum.

450 i'll have a read of those articles tonight when the missus goes work.
