  • Next stage from coaxial - what second heli?

I'm starting to learn with a Blade mCX2, but I'm starting to look ahead to the next stage. I want something not too expensive to buy, fly or crash, but out-door capable, and ideally both "future-proof" so I can gradually build up to the inverted flight etc that I see and admire in various videos, and a single machine which will do me for some years!

A lot of people seem to go with Blade, and I was thinking of perhaps a Blade 130X, 300X or 450X; I know these are beyond me now but in a few weeks/months...

The general theme through the forum seems to be Blade machines of various sizes until the experts and their Raptors and similar, with almost no other brands being discussed for second machines. Are the Blade range machines really are as good as that suggests? Advice and opinion welcome - anyone recommend a non-Blade equivalent to say a Blade 130X or 450X?

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Thanks in advance,

    Owen

    Blade 450 3D - outdoor use, slightly grass-stained

Blade Nano CPX - indoor use, slightly lively
Blade mSR X - indoor use, slightly less lively than Nano

    Hey,

sounds like your getting the bug :-)

Sounds like you want a minimum 450 perhaps a 500. These two will last you a couple of years or more. as for popularity, The micro blades nano to 130x are popular because they are good helis - and they bind to Spectrum TXs so people use them as a stepping stone to get to what they feel are real helis - 450 and up. Also No one else really hits this niche quite as we'll as Blade.

Once you hit the 450 and upward you get quite a choice to choose from but the most popular would be the Trex range.

You should really look at what spares you can easily get as you will most probably need them. The other choice when looking at the 450s is do you want to build it? If the answer is no then I believe only Blade do built RTF new helis - although someone will probably correct me :-)

Finally you should buy a sim as your learning as from the CoAx world doesn't really translate to a 450 CP heli, so use the sim to get to grips with it before your first hover. With a 450 it's a very good idea to join a club for a 500 or bigger I would say its a necessity as the danger to yourself and others is very high with those bigger birds.

    Good luck
