  • R/C Heli Tutorial Quick Tip #3 Remove Stripped Bolts

  • #2
Thanks, this helped, especially the tip about bits of metal sticking to the motor.

Rather than remove the motor, I covered the whole helicopter with a cloth with a small hole cut out to access the damaged screw - like a surgeon covers a patient in an operating theatre - and used tape around the screw to keep the cloth in place.

I found that even with a slot for a screwdriver, the screws wouldn't budge until I heated the screw with a gas soldering iron for quite a long time. Then the screws came out quite easily.

Lastly, I found in some cases it was easier to grip the edge of the screw with pliers and twist - this worked where the slot method failed.

I've done this by finding a masonry drill bit that just fits the hole and running it backwards fairly slowly with a slight tilt. Tends to just drag the bolt out without any mess.
