  • Hiya guys, yet another newbie needing help

Hiya everyone, im james and ive always wanted a rc helicopter. after being into rc car drifting for years i know the guys in my lhs well and they think i should get the mini pred. its not the normal one it's fully upgraded made fully of cnc and carbon fibre for £250 with 2 1500MaH batterys. is this a good deal?

I'm totally swapped with what to get. My requirements are 6ch, strong, indoor and outdoor, £250 and under, pc flight sim.

I know you guys must hear this from every newbie that comes on here but what would you recommend?

    Thanks
    James

The general opinion here is that as a beginner your best bet is an E-Flite CX2 and a copy of Phoenix simulator.

Wish I'd know about that and this site 6 months ago!

Either way Hi and Welcome. I'm sure you'll enjoy it here

what dashik says is the best starter route.and ony £200.
when you say indoor i hope you dont mean your living room as the minipred will destroy everything and its self!! its way to big.unless you live in a palace of course
also the radio that comes with the pred is not good and will be no good when you progress. the pred its self although classed as a beginners heli is twitchy and difficult to set up .(now im sure your lhs will tell you otherwise).

research the blade cx2 and have a think then let us know if its right for you.(if you'll be flying at an indoor club and there is help you may be better off seeing what they fly i gaurantee there will be some there)

Hi, For an extra 10 20 quid go for the Blade 400 instead of the pred se, a lot better heli and comes with a park fly DX6 spektrum radio so much better as you don't have to worry about frequencies. I do agree that a conta rotating heli is a great start as they teach you the basics very well.

Thanks for the quick reply everyone. the E-Flite CX2 i not my kinda thing. i cant stand the heli's with 2 sets of blades.

The blade 400 is a nice helicopter but its too much. im at a stretch already, and as for the controller 2.4GhZ is the same as all Wi-Fi and alot of household stuff surely that will have alot more interferance.

haha no i dont mean my living room either Boggy there is a indoor club about a 30minute drive from me

what do you lot think of the mini pred SE? ive seen alot about the normal mini pred but nothing on the SE. seems an amazing amount better than the normal with all the upgrades. There are alot of customer comments on websites selling the mini pred and they are all good.

Do the research on the 2.4Ghz stuff and you'll be amazed, its virtually bombproof compared with 35Mhz etc.

Why do you think the comments on a website selling the Item in question are all good?

Its your choice at the end of the day but if people like Ade Law et al reccommend a CX2 you have to ask yourself why?

You need to walk before you can run. If I'd know about the CX2 I could have saved a small fortune. You can get the shiney toys later when you can benifit from them.

Better still go to that club and see what they reccommend.

I have been flying with the spektrum DX7 2.4ghz since it came out in july and i have not had a single glitch on any of my heli's, it is fantastic, in fact i was so fed up with glitches on my mini pred i put a spektrum reciever in and binned the standard tx rx. From an mini pred owner, save the extra go for the blade, if the blade was out back in may when i bought the pred it would of been no contest, for 20 quid, it is a much more capable heli. Or look for a second hand trex 450 ready to go.

James one more thing, i came into heli flying the same way, i was an ex-off buggy rc racer when i was younger, flying was the next step, and yes it does help being used to controlling a car when learning to fly, but when you mess up in the air, it costs alot more as it ends in bits on the ground, I started on a conta rotating lama, mini pred, and now 2 trex's, the lama was smashed up many a time.
Sims are a must, i have been out flying today but still sat down late this afternoon and had an hour on the sim practicing new 3d moves, but my two boys also use it and are both learning the cheep way.

No, My Name is James, don't live to far from there mind that is handy. Do you just fly at dorset? Thats a fair way to travel to your club, i have re-jioned the westlands one for next year but i might also join the templecombe club as i want to get my a and b certs sorted out in the new year and there is no examiners with the yeovil club bar richard, and he can only do a's.
