  • Dont know where to start

Hi, I am a very new member so please be gentle with me. At the age of 67 I have decided to try RC helis as a hobby.
I have read so many reviews and articles that I just don`t know what to buy. I live in spain and have a very large garden area in which to fly a heli. I want a micro with a headlight [ I know its sad ] and a good remote distance from the heli. 10 to 15 meters height would be nice.
I want to start off with a simple machine and work up. I have read that the Syma 107G is getting good reviews but you guys may well think this is not the one to get. For my first heli I don`t want to spend more than about £ 40.00 but I want to be able to get spares.
I would very much appreciate your views. Thanks jack.

    Hey and welcome,

I would suggest something in the Eflite Blade range, maybe MCPx or 130x but I think you will need to up for your budget a bit. I honestly don't know anything decent for less than £100ish.

      Wellcome to the froum

I got my kids a syma not the model your looking at a bit older but in all honesty it was junk, the factory vids on youtube looked good, but then they would.
I agree with Lynx go the eflite route either the mcpx or 130 route if you want full collective management or as I did the Eflite Blade CX2 much tamer to learn on and build confidence but limited once you get to flying it around, also as mentioned not in your budget.

Welcome to the forum. I'm in your age range and I started on helis only a few years ago. They are easy to break and difficult to control. Do you realise the difference between the coaxials and the single rotor helis? Single rotor are more difficult and expensive but more usable out of doors. It's not really a good idea to just buy something, you need to find a group of people and see what they fly. If you do get a £40 heli it will just be the start. Larger helis are better outside and less affected by wind but when they crash they are very likely to need expensive repairs. Smaller helis like the msr can be crashed and survive.

If you want to keep the cost down have a look at downloading a free sim like FMS and getting a transmitter box that will plug into the usb port. You will need to do a lot of practice before you stop crashing all the time.

I hear reasonable things about the Heliguy Atom. Also there is quite an active forum on this model on their website

Well I would bet most of us started on a £40 heli (I got a U6 for Xmas). It then becomes too easy to fly and because we have been bitten by the heli bug we want more.

I suggest you do some research on the difference between fixed pitch(fp) and collective pitch (cp) helicopters. If you going to be flying outdoor only then cp is what you need and I agree with looking at the eflight range. I jumped straight into the mcpx and now have a 130x.

            Best of luck
