  • Idle, hold and govern....

    Hi all,

As I return to the hobby and have so far 8 succesful flights with my T Rex 600 nitro pro (no black bin bags yet!) I begin to get more confused between Idle Up, Throttle Hold and Governing.

I have a JR DX9 2.4 ghz transmitter and a functioning Align Governor set up as per the manual..... Noel Cross set this up for me but I keep getting too late in the day to ring him and go through this with him when I remember!

So... can anyone succinctly explain the basic differences? Currently the flights are done without the governor switched in (it is on the gear switch), so I can hear a bit of head speed change as I fly, but having done some flying of helis in the past I am OK with this, though I realise its less responsive. I have not used or even know if idle up and hold are set up on the tranny.

How would I as a beginner get the best of these capabilities if indeed I actually need to use them?

I did a search and am either crap at it or the way in which I have asked the questions has not yet been asked, but I think that is doubtful!!!!

    Many thanks for any input,

    Regards,

    Gaz

    Hi Gaz
i have set your model up for a beginner,so there are no idle up settings for your model,in use a idle up set up is used for aerobatics only, normal mode is used for hovering and gentle flying around,so for you with the gear switch active you are using the governor and normal mode for your flying. The throttle hold mode is active on your model this is used as a safety feature when you are carrying the model with the engine running and is also used for practising autorotations hope this helps regards Noel

That's what you call customer service!!!! Thanks Noel, the ship by the way is flying beautifully, but I have not switched the governor in, I will do that next flight. So throttle hold is engaged at tick over, I can see how autos word work, and Idle up possibly the other extreme in having plenty of speed/head power. Now I understand!!!!

Thanks for the response, and I again congratulate you on your expertise on set up, it works brilliantly!

      Cheers,

      Gaz

Id do it in a gentle hover for the first time, just incase something unplanned happens, like your headspeed slows or worse still engine cuts.... you dont want to have to do an auto.

          Hi
The governor will not engage until the throttle stick is at 25 percent throttle, then the governor will take over from your throttle curve, to check that your governor is active look at the led on the governor it should be red which is of, and green if it is on.So switch the governor on via your gear switch, throttle up the model then you will hear a surge of rotor rpm as the governor comes in, then lift of and fly as normal when you land as you throttle down below 25percent the governor will drop out then reduce the throttle stick to tick over hope this helps regards Noel

            Thanks Noel,

Every time I remembered to call you it was like late O'Clock but now I fully understand how it is set up and works. Simples! But thanks again for the help, no doubt when it checks in the turf some more education will be needed! Cheers, Gaz
