  • Advice to a newbie -yes again!!!!

Firstly, hi to you all and thanks for all of the advice i'll recieve.

I have decided that I want a new hobby and always liked the idea of a helicopter. So, with xmas around the corner I have decided to dip my toe in the water.

I had come to the decision to by a Honey Bee CP2 or a King until I came about this site..... now I am totally confused.

Can anyone give me some advice on what I should purchase.. I'm looking to spend about £160 max and would like to use it outside (in still or very very light wind).

At the moment I have never tried to fly a one and have nothing.

Your advice would be really helpfull to me.

    Thanks all.

    Paul

or a blade cx2 has to be flat calm to fly outdoors but you will crash it a lot less than the CP

Have a read of this first http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7193.

The Blade cx2 is a good introduction model and will set you back around £110-120, as it has 2 sets of rotors it is ideal for those first steps and wont cost the earth when you crash. You get everything needed to get it up and flying so it really is good value.

I was given a small fixed pitched heli as a present and it was crap! It took a year to decide is was total rubbish and I went and purchased a decent tx and sim, like someone has already suggested. After about 2 months of occasional use I could hover with ease. About a month after that I went and purchased a Hirobo Evo 50 as a first helicopter.

So my advice is to forget about the pathetic little micros, coaxials and even 450 sized electrics. Get the tx and sim and practice. After that get a 30 size or 50 size kit and you will be well set for this hobby. Personally I think you need to be able to budget £500 to £1000 if you are going to get everything new. Join a local club and see if you can pickup a seconhand helicopter.

                            Thanks for the replies guys.

I have a few decisions to make then!!!

The advice on this forum is slightly different to that on heliguy.com forum. They suggest to buy the Honey Bee. Although the cynical side of me thinks, how much of a coincidence is this as heliguy sells them!!!

I do think the advice on this forum will be slightly better than the forum mentioned above.

Anyway, the sensible option seems to buy Phoenix Sim and a TX, learn to hover and then spend about £300+ on an entry level helicopter, master that and then move onto bigger things.

Alternatively, do I buy a (second hand) blade cx2 along with a Sim? - At least then I then have something to play with rather than just my PC.

I have found a flying in Scarborough so I will probably make contact them.

                            Choices, choices!!!

Don't take too much notice of those that say the blade cx is just a toy, granted it's not perfect but the idea is to learn you the basics at a low cost. However I do agree that the sim is money extremely well spent.
