Hi gunnerboy, as with the advice above, it would be a good idea to visit your local flying site if you have one... look at some helis and talk to the flyers. buying a SH heli might be better bought from the heliaddicts forum, or from your local flying site where you could perhaps see it fly.
If you intend to fly at a field alone then the electric helis would probably be a better choice to start with.
The Spektrum range of transmitters DX7 or DX8 would be a good choice to due the vast range of (BNF) Bind and Fly aircraft, Planes & Helis that are available to fly (future proof your interests)
I would guess the heli that the most people have started flying / learning with is the TREX 450 range of helis.
The Eflight blade range from the 120sr through to 300x or 450x or 500 could be a good idea as you could progress right through the range as your skills progress.
Definitely a sim such as the Pheonix simulator would be the best first step. hope this helps...
