Please help , I am a beginner and am having problems starting my new tt 39 pro h engine, I am using os8 glow plugs and prosynth 5% fuel, when I turn the engine over there does not seem like it wants to start, I am using a ripmax 1.25v 1700ma starter which seems to be working when I pull the plug out of the engine the plug does glow quite bright , I have tried a different plug just in case but the problem is still there can anyone please advise. :x

    Okay,

Make sure the main needle is three turns from closed, make sure when the throttle stick is at the bottom and the throttle trim is a the bottom that your carb is fully closed.

Then move the throttle trim to half point.

The idle needle is hidden inside the throttle barrel on the right hand side, close it and open it half way. The mixture needle controls the engine from idle to the transition of the main needle where you get all the power. Too much smoke and its too rich too little and its too lean, with a new engine you need to run rich for the first 1/2 dozen tanks.

If using a starter and glow from the same power source, get a glow stick unless your positive that the glow is staying solid when turning it over. So many times at our club, we changed plug's and also sorts only to try a glow stick and bob's your uncle.

Make sure all fuel lines are not blocked and that the clunk is clear.

    Hope this helps.
    Cheers

Thanks for the reply stuartn, but could you please clear up 2 points for me
      1. I have set my control up so that when the throttle lever is down the carb is fully closed I have 0 trim in only -10 on the cut off. so am I right in saying that you use the trim to open up the orifice of the carb slightly when starting but not enough to enage the clutch.
      2. when altering the mixture needle valve which is the hidden one, can you describe in detail how you actualy set it to 1/2.
      Sorry for all the bother

The way to set up your throttle linkage is to have the trim at the bottom and the stick at the bottom = closed carb.

When your starting your heli, the stick stay's at the bottom and the trim is moved 1/2 half way i.e the middle. This should give you aprox an idle status for starting, now that's not to say that maybe on a cold day you many need a little more, and the trim will need some fine tuning. Do this by pushing it up a couple of points at a time at a time.

You have to be mindful that if the engine is being turned over and drawing fuel in and not starting eventually you'll flood it, so you may have to take the plug off and turn it over a few sec's with the fuel line closed to clear it out.

On the mixture needle, close it fully and then count the number of full turns to fully open and then turn it back half the way so that the mixture needle is set to the middle setting.

        Turning Needles.

        Clockwise = Closed
        Anti-Clockwise = Open.

Only turn needles for fine tuning after you get it started by small increments, i.e. mixture 15 to 30 degrees max and main needle 2-3 clicks max.

Hope this helps to explain things better

Stuart I am very sorry I now, thanks to you see what I have been doing wrong and understand that the engine would never have started without air , It helps with combustion, but I am still puzzled with the needle setting I have screwed the needle in until it stops but when unscrewing there does not seem to be a back stop and thus unable to get the 1/2 way point, what I can see down the carb is the needle valve moving towards the main jet valve which it just clears at full throttle, should there be a a set distance from the main jet at full throttle ops:

ahh...Not like the OS, well atleast not a C-Spec ...I'll see if I can find a factory setting for it.
                Cheers

From what info I have found online it would seem that 2 turns out on the idle mixtrure and 2-3 turns out on the main needle. It would seem that some people think 2 turns out will bake the engine and 3 will prevent it starting as too rich.

Personally I would go 2 turns out on idle and 3 on main and then just adjust the main a little way in at a time until I got it starting and runnign reliably. Accurate tuning can then be done with the rotor up to speed to see the smoke and engine temp at normal running rpm.
