  • Show us your first flights!

Hey all. I'm sure I'm not the only noob on here but having just getting the hang of a basic hover and recovery it sorts makes you sick to see what capable hands can do with the models of today. I'm sure you weren't all like that and had to start somewhere, so, if you have them, show us your first flights warts and all....!

A vid of me trying to get a hover under control, for a few seconds anyway. this was 8 or 9 days after getting it at xmas, about 25 hours of practice. Can do an inverted hover for about the same time now so i am improving slowly. Still crash as well

I wouldn't worry about it mate. Its a bar which constantly raises, and it goes up quicker the harder you try. As long as you are enjoying the challenge, it makes no difference what anyone else is doing. I will see if I can find a pic of me chasing my fixed fitch MFA 500 around the field. Spent a long time trying to get that to hover !!
      Cheers,
      Simon

I said I a little tongue in cheek, but know what you mean and looking forward to the challenge.

Here is my first attempt with my newly built 450 sport about a month ago.

I had been flying an MCPx for a few week before this first flight. Hovering is a lot better now but not really progressed much farther in the last month though, all takes time I guess.

How the he'll did you manage a first flight like that? You must be awesome at setting up.
                Very impressive.

That is what I love about this hobby its a challenge. I look at the good guys fly and cant imagine I will ever get there but slowly improving. Looking back over the old videos is great way to see how you have progressed.
I had training gear on for about the first 40 flights. Took off and after about 10 flights it tipped on take off. Put me back ages. Went to V2 of the 3gx which fixed that problem. Took me ages to get my confidence up again but it all comes back. Training gear is a great way to build confidence. Some days I fly rubbish and feel like I have gone backwards. Then the next pull off a new move and woohoo.

Here are some videos if you are really bored.

I'm kind of glad to see myself at a similar level (all be it on the sim) as most of these videos. I'll get some more stick and mcpx time in over the next couple of weeks while I build my 550. Keep the vids coming!

I tried to stay a move ahead of myself on the sim. Eg made sure I could hover on the sim nose in before trying tail in for real. Started doing some forward flight and flips on the sim before going nose in for real. Kinda caught up to the sim as haven't had enough time for it. Spending too much time fixing and tweaking the real heli.
