  • beginner question

hi all i have just bought myself a t rex 450 plus rtf heli and i will be investing in a good sim as well in the very near future but was just trying to get it off the ground today and ive stopped as when its almost ready to go it wants to tip back and to the right when the tail if facing me just wondering what i need to adjust on the tx or the heli to get it to stop doing this. I origionally thought it was due to the wind outside but brought it inside the house and it does the same.

thanks in advance for your help.

Do you know how to trim the helicopter? Sounds like it needs trimming

If it wants to tip back you need to give it a some forward trim. So, on the elevator trim, give it about 5 clicks forward (depends how much it wants to go back if you know what i mean)

Then if it wants to go right... you need to use the aileron trim and give it 3,4 or 5 clicks left to counteract that movement.

Is the tail holding ok? Or is that drifting?

But you really need to get it in the air away from the ground effect to see what trim really needs to be done.

Make sure that the swashplate is horizontal and level before you even try to take off.

Center all the sticks, and then check the level of the swash, make sure all servos are at 90 degrees aswell.

Make sure you disconnect the motor first though

And don't try to fly it indoors! It will decapitate your dog/cat, destroy any furniture it hits and slice you to the bone!

well just an update......flew the heli for the first time today after getting up the courage to get it off the ground, managed to hover it almost in one place for a while and then move it around the garden left/right and bacjwards and forwards all in all a superb first flight for me and im loving it and cant wait to learn more and develope my flying skills over time. had a small mishap when my mum decided to come out and watch me i crashed it, well had a bit of a hard landing and the casualty was one of my main blades ended up with a chip at the very tip of it but nothing else so all in all i cant wait to get some new blades and get it flying again. awesome.

take a picture of the blade and upload it - if it's just a small chip it may still be useable.

I too am a newbie, but have had to learn everything myself as i don't know anybody into this hobby (apart from the odd peice of advice from fast lads on my dailey visits) apart from this forum i have found the finless bob videos to be very helpfull and have now got me a point where i can set up and diagnose and parts of the heli.
                    Maybe worth a watch...

yea i know as soon as i saw it i knew my flight was over but i got to admit i wish id done it a while ago...even with the breakage im still buzzing. this is way better and more challenging than r/c cars.

got my new blades and flew it again and i really think im hooked on rc helis even though ive only had a couple of flights its giving me way more excitement that my r/c cars did so i think ill be sticking with it.

Get some training gear with the new blades
It will make it a bit more docile and give you a bigger footprint to land with
