  • Another which heli thread

It is almost time for me to start looking for my next heli and am a bit unsure of what to go for, at the moment i am just buzzing around with my mcpx and although i can fly it around ok i am still only at the very basic learning stage and my hatred of sim work is certainly slowing me up so whatever i get next needs to be user friendly.
I had pretty much made my mind up that i was going to look out for a used raptor 30/50 as i love the size, i love nitro and the fact that they seem to go for peanuts on the used market and everyone goes on about how stable they are for beginners, the only problem i can see is that ultimately its noise and size will also restrict when and where i can fly it which is why i am wondering if i would be better off going for either a new 450 size tarot, trex or tt mini titan or a used trex 500. I expect most will say go for the 500 and i know that would be the easiest thing to do but i am worried i will regret not getting the raptor as i have had my heart set on one for ages and i am not really a big fan of electric even though i know its quieter and cleaner. Still got a few weeks to go before i make my mind up for definate so opinions welcomed.

Trex 500 :-) clean quiet big but still low crash costs, cheap parts hard little bugger when putting it in. Electric has more power, quieter, cleaner, no dea sticks, no tuning to do, always starts, the only thing it needs is the smell an a couple more mins per flight

weirdly i was about to start a very similar thread!

I had decided on a TREX500EFL as i'd been advised it would be easier and more stable than a 450. I then went along the lines of 'a 550 isn't much more' lol.

I saw a friends LOGO400SE which seemed an ideal size. Somewhere between the 500 and 550 (maybe closer to the 550) so this became my choice to make.

£670ish for the 550 or £850ish for the logo400SE......i'm starting to think that as I'm not far off starting out, both will be more than capable of covering my flying skills.

If i had your choice OP, I would agree with Randall on the 500.....but i'm personally pushed my choice to the 550 ish.
