  • Turned a corner

I had a bit of a turning point over the weekend. After a more than average start to flying (i picked it up pretty fast) I did hit a wall that I have not been able to get through for about 2 months. That said, yesterday I turned a corner. I used the MCPX a lot, generally in my mums back garden as its huge. I feel really confident with it, and this confidence has transferred onto the 500 too. I still cant do nose in but I am a lot closer. I can do the nose at about 100 degrees and hold it there for a while. Just need to get the brain to engage so I can go the whole way.

One thing I am doing and have become good at is reversing it toward me for a good distance and as it gets to me use the rudder to turn the nose in the opposite direction so it kind of flies left to right really quick. I can also hover and rotate 360 with the rudder. Height is not an issue for me now nor is distance.

I did have a bit of a bad landing toward yesterday, but I don’t about 20 batteries worth of flying. Just broke a rotor head attachment, well in fact it flicked off and I could not find it.

All in I am pleased with progress thus far J

Practice practice practice guys!!!! You will get it..... and you will be totally buzzing. Really hammering all your orientations is the best and quickest way to more advanced flying. The basics make everything else fall into place. You may find it dull for a bit. But once you are confident in all orientations... you will be able to do piro flips and the rest without really noticing..... You will just suddenly go... hang on... i can piro flip.... without even trying it first. Its almost like your fingers start saying "we can piro flip that for you if you would like?" Hammer those basics!!!!!!!! Your brain and fingers will do the rest. You won't have to sit down and analyse all the tough moves... they will just come naturally

Keep at it and keep the Sim work up. It will come. I am about 3 months in and got my 500 inverted hovering for the first time last week. Very excited. I actually find side in harder than nose in. Everyone talks about the "nose in fear" and I think it spooks everyone. Do it on the sim for a bit and you will get it. with the MCPX just find some soft grass get some height and turn nose in. Hold for as long as you can and if not comfortable spin back to tail in. After a few goes you will find your self nose in no worries. Just have to get over the first time nerves.

For all orientation practice I gave a few clicks of rudder trim to the mcpx, it makes it do a continuous slow piro and you have to only adjust to keep it in your fly area, helped me, see if it helps you

i am very confident at tail in but cant hold nose in for very long before my brain farts and send me the wrong way but al least I can save it now with the trusty tail in catch about and inch before the ground!!!

I'm making good progress with the mcpx in the garden too
We have quite a long narrow garden so I tend to scream off up the garden pop it up in the air turn it nose in and straight back down then turn round and repeat

I do feel more confident with right turns though so must work on left turns

                  Hey Shaggy,
Try the hover practice on Phoenix, helped me loads. Don't hammer the same thing or you'll get 'handed' I did this practising backwards flying then found I couldn't fly a normal forward circuit!

So amped just been to the park and did my first flip into inverted hover and back again!!!!! Sure I did try it again and folded my bullet proof skids in half and bent a feathering shaft but 100% worth it!!!

Good to hear you turning the corner. I hit that wall and got stuck also, I think we all do. I found, like others said, it was a case of practice and it just clicks. I'm now at the stage where I can directly relate my sim practice into real flying. I still limit sim time to 20 minutes or so to stop the non constructive messing about!
