I agree, I found the more I practiced on the sim the quicker my reactions have become and I seem to be having less and less crashes. I think the simulator is an invaluable tool when learning to fly even half decent.

Well done Shaggy, it's a great feeling when you do something new isn't it. I found that out recently when my mCPX got me through the wall I was at of side on flying with slidy turns at either end. I'm now flying my Raptor 30 and T-rex 700N in figure of 8's and getting the banked turns wider at each end and more nose in on the way back. I've just started nose in hovering on my 450, when the weather calms down a bit I'll get the mCPX up the field and really give the orientations a good hammering. I'm hoping that by the Blackburn Fly-in on the 8th, 9th & 10th June I'll have them down. Need to get my PC sorted so I can load a sim onto it, sure that will help too.

Something that has helped is my obsession flying the MCPX in windy conditions. I actually find it challenging and fun , on the weekend there was several times where the gusts were so strong and long that the little machine would be launched into the air, it's then down to your skill on the power to keep it in one place.

One time I had almost no throttle and the little fella was sitting there at about 20 feet very happy.

Flying it in wind is superb fun and I think will benefit me in the long run.

I'd avoided taking the mcpx in gusty winds until last week, but it is one way of getting the "nerve factor" that the mcpx lacks working again

I'm getting the hang of all orientations now which is big progress for me as I had a mental wall when it came to turning nose in,

I'm looking forward to getting the 450 out again and hopefully pointing it towards me for a change

All good comments. I have tried the few clicks on the tail of the Mini CP (MCPX clone) to practice slow piros. Works a treat one less thing to worry about at the time. Also on real flight the hover practice I turned into a bit of a game. Set my timer to a normal flight time and tried to see how many stages I could get through in that time. Gave me a bench mark to work toward and to measure improvements.
Now im started inverted hovering and im really struggling with the orientations again as all different. Like starting from scratch but I know I will get there eventually. Then look out im off......

Are you using flat throttle curves and idle up for windy conditions?
I had the wind kick in really strong one day when I was just learning to hover on the 500. It ended up really really high and I had trouble getting it down as not much negative pitch and didn't have flat throttle curve (before I set ilde up on my TX) With the head speed really low to get it down almost lost it. Was very happy when I got it back on the ground.

I had idle up set up on my dx6i but it wasn't until the first big gust and the mcpx going skyward that I decided to use it
Now I keep normal mode for flying round the house when a quick "ditch" may be required and iu for outdoors to power down through the wind

Yeah flying in the wind does get you used to using the collective, as long as you're in idle up. The first time the mCPX got blown up in the air I forgot I was in normal mode, gave it almost full down and did a nice blade stop....good job they bounce

I tend to fly out in the car park at lunch time so don't fly if it's too windy as I don't want to risk either slamming it into the ground or someone else's car. If i take it up the nearest field then I get annoyed as you get 1001 small kids round you all telling you they have one of these, or their dad has one and can they have a fly!
