  • New to RC Heli's and the Forum

    Hi,

Signed up to the forum a few days ago, and after trawling through old posts and using the search function to the max I decided to jump head first into the hobby and bought a mCPx v2 and DX6i to match.

I'm still in awe about how amazing the Tx looks and I hope to get the heli hoverring at some point this evening when I get home.

Look forward to posting more and using the info on the forum in the weeks to come.

Then you will want a bigger one and another one and a shiny one and one to muck about with and before you know it the void that was your bank balance will appear soon enough...

Hi welcome to forum! I made the leap from small clone FP to an MCPX + DX6i a couple of months ago, I'd advise you pick up a simulator too. Between putting daily time on the sim and getting my MCPX outside whenever the weather suits (be it on my lunch break, after work, early mornings - it's a blast!) I feel I'm progressing comforably and I'm now hunting for my first large heli! It feels like it was a great way into this hobby. I've got to say of all the things I've been involved in, the heli community is probably the best.

                Thanks for the replies.

Funnily the Phoenix sim is my next step. Hoping to buy it by this weekend. I still need to post a little bit more before I can post in the wanted section here. If anyone knows the best place to buy it from any advice would be appreciated.

The next thing I have my eye on is a Parrot Drone V2 when it's released this summer.

                Watch this space!

You can buy it here: New Phoenix V3.0 RC Simulator PHOENIX-SIM1

Waiting around for a Phoenix sim to go on sale might indeed be a long time, as it's such a useful tool not many people sell them.

You'll save that cost many times over in crash savings. I wish I started with a sim, I could have bought it with the money from my first crash with a 400 sized model....

The Parrot Drone's are amazing machines, I saw them at the Gadget show live, sweeeet. I think I might get one too!

I tried one of those iPhone heli controllers and it was horrible, no idea what the Parrot is like, but I struggled to do simple forward flight with a micro coax on an iPhone haha.

lol oh dear now you're in trouble! I started a few years ago by buying a pico z which led onto an mcpx 2 which led to a blade 450 and am now looking at a 600 or 700

Welcome to the madhouse. It can be difficult when you start. The sim is very good but real things are more difficult to begin with. Flying over grass is a good idea if you can with the smaller helis. The mcpx is difficult though so don't get too discouraged if you run into problems. You just have to keep on going until one day it all clicks. Big helis on the sim are easiest and to begin with just trying to get them off the ground and straight back down again. There's a lot to think about and no time to think, so you have to get it on automatic. Just keep practicing. The smaller models on the sim are not that good, but will give you a rough idea. When you can hold a hover you'll be pretty pleased with yourself, then you'll think of the next step. It is meant to be fun though.
