  • Throttle Response

    Hello guys.

Just to let you know that today, in Cape Town, it's minimum 18 degrees, maximum 30, no wind, no cloud, the sea is flat like glass, blue and inviting. The sky looks deep blue, the views of the mountain are amazing..

    ..and what does this mean?

I can fly my Trex450! Wooo!

So, I rose this morning, got ready for work, and then took my heli out. It was hot. I'm actually at work now, in my shorts!

Anyway, flew like a dream. Tried to fly towards me, but feel out of control, although, better than 3 weeks ago when I turned towards me for the first time.

My question though... I fly quite high, so that if I attempt a nose in, and it goes to pot, I just give it throttle and swing the tail. Worked so far.

But when I want to bring the heli back in (Tail in, or side on), I drop the throttle quite a bit to get it to drop... About 5 meteres from the ground, I slow the fall. When I say fall, I'm not coming down too fast... still under the power of the heli.

But when I start getting close to where I want to be, I find I need to give close on 100% throttle to stop the fall. It seems to bog down at mid stick while it's falling, and I get a fright (everytime! I should start learning!), and a few times I have bounced it, unintentionally.

I think I need to adjust my curves and throttle, because maybe the throttle is down at 15,20%, and when I give it power to stop the descent, the picth increases, and this has an effect on the blades trying to get rpm?

My pitch curve is close to linear, but from 40% to 100%
    My throttle is somthing like, 0, 40, 60, 80, 90.

May I should start with some more neg pitch, as sometime I find I battle to come down... and then a higher headspeed throughout? 0, 60, 70, 80, 90 or something?

I notice the same phenomina with both the Trex and the Rappy..

Is this linked to the dead mans curve ?

Sounds like you are trying to fly around in Normal instead of Idle Up? Which is not a good thing as you need headspeed to maintain control so you should be using a V curve now. Normal is fine for learning to hover but not so good once you are moving the heli around.

As you are coming down you are probably lowering the pitch quite a lot (along with the throttle). When you apply power again, the headspeed has to build before the heli becomes responsive again.
Try a throttle curve of 0, 90, 90, 100, 100 to keep the headspeed up.
Alternatively, the bearings in the blade grips could be notchy resulting in a "jumpy" and not a smooth collective. This is because the SE v1 does not have any thrust bearings in the blade grips. Upgrading to a V2 head helps a lot with this.

Mmm.. this Idle Up sounds interesting... That will be a new learning curve... Remembering to go to Normal for landing and take off, and then remembering that below half stick, and it's coming down chop-chop.

I have never tried idleup, but, I guess I should then. What will that throttle curve do to my flight duration? I currently do 7 minutes and have 20% left.

Most people only use Normal for starting up. All the rest is done in Idle Up inc take off and landing.
Shouldn't affect your flight time a lot really

              Will try today.
              So, pitch? 0 to 100?
              And then throttle 100, 95, 90, 95, 100?
Or should I keep the pitch as it is. 40% to 100%?
Also, when can I go into idle up? I assume at a certain throttle stick position, or else it will shoot up or something?

I wouldn't go for a full V curve yet, try just uping your bottom to throttle point's to just below your hover point giving you a sort of slight slope to your hover, say something like 40,40,60, copy your pitch curve across, and see how you go with that, also how much neg have you got, you will want at least -2, but more like -4 would be better. If you go for a V curve, you hover point would be a 3/4 stick, and your Inverted (!!!) hover point would be 1/4 stick, you are not ready for that step yet.
-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

                And a DX8 too

Of course you were talking about your heli. Good luck with the throttling then.

How do you give it a good, firm throttling?

                            Just interested...
